You have no idea how happy I am this is a thing. There is not enough FMA imagine blogs out there. Ed x Reader were the Reader doesn't react like a normal person would when they be burned. Ed learns that the reader did Human Transmutation in the hopes of bring her older sister back. Now she don't have the sense of touch. Thank you thank you!
Thank you! Considering how deeply and long that I loved FMA as well as my apparent knack for reader-insert works, I’m honestly surprised it didn’t happen sooner.
It didn’t take too long for him to notice. Exactly one week, two days and barely an hour into breakfast. Maybe he noticed it long before voicing it, the way you barely flinched when cutting yourself with a knife in the kitchen while preparing food, or pressed your fingers to a hot pan on the stove. Your hands were covered with scars from before Edward came to visit you again, many of them hurriedly explained away with being clumsy or eccentric with various crafts.
It took him one week, two days and an hour at least before mentioning it.
You’re normally so good at hiding it, compensating with long, thicker clothes to make excuses or hide away the fact that you can’t feel the hot dishes or the softness of the blankets. You’ve hidden away the fact that you can’t much feel the press of Edward’s hand on your shoulder at times, often only catching it by the flash of movement out of the corner of your eye.
Like many things, Edward doesn’t let the question go.
“Are you...not able to feel anything?”
It’s a hard question, but an even harder answer. An answer you hoped to leave behind you for the rest of your life, a dirty secret stuffed so deep into your memories that it may never be retrieved again. But they’re still there, hidden away, left unforgotten no matter how much you tried to.
At least he listens. He listens to every word, his voice silent, his face solemn. At first, you think there is some level of pity in his eyes--you’ve seen that look before. You’ve seen it from the doctors, from friends. An accident, you tell many. An accident as a child, a nerve disorder, a chronic illness never to be mended away.
Lies, but a little bit of truth. You had tried to bring back your sister as a child, after all.
By the time you finish the story, you stare into Edward’s eyes again. All of the pity from before is gone, replaced by a look of...empathy. It’s a look you’re not used to, but one you rarely see from him. It’s a look of mutual understanding, of pain, of regret--
Sometimes you catch yourself looking like that in the mirror, glancing up from the scars that mark up your hands and wrists from countless accidents that you can’t even feel.
And then, Edward gently reaches a hand to grab one of yours. It’s the motion that pulls you from your thoughts, the visual perception than anything else, though there is a distinct feeling of pressure as his hand wraps around your own.
“...You can’t feel this?” He asks, gently. His grip firms just a little bit, and you lay your free hand over his.
“A little,” Is all you whisper at first. “The pressure, mostly. I can’t really feel all that much other then that. Most of me is numb--I’ve gotten used to it over the years.”
Edward is silent for a few moments. It’s hard to tell what he’s thinking sometimes, often so lost in his thoughts that he seems more like a statue then a person--and the curtain of blonde hair around his face, body leaning forward to have grabbed your hand, certainly doesn’t help.
“...What about your lips?” He asks.
It takes a moment for your mind to register the question, and then a moment more to come up with an answer.
“...I can feel a little bit around my face and neck--otherwise I suppose I would have bit my lips to pieces by now.”
The joke seems to fall flat between the two of you, leaving you feeling more awkward than anything at first. But then, Edward speaks again, his voice calm and low.
“So does that mean,” He tilts his head enough so that his hair falls from in front of his eyes. You can feel the near-glowing, golden gaze. “--That you feel it when I kiss you, at least?”
Silence. Mental chugging, comprehending the question as something you didn’t expect him to ask, his face suddenly getting closer to you, leaning in, your heart pounds in your chest and--
You feel, somewhat, the plush warmth of Edward’s lips. It’s now a rather foreign thing, that sensation of warmth--it contrasts with the chilly numbness that has long since become a normal thing to you.
The kiss shared is long and gentle, leaving you breathless, relieved, like a hundred pounds has been shed from your shoulders.
As the other slowly pulls away, you feel him watching you, waiting for your answer to the question you’ve nearly forgotten in the middle of everything.
A smile graces upon your lips.
“Yes,” the smile gets a little wider, and soon Edward mirrors it. “I can feel your kisses, at least.”
