【Soul Rescue 】

I'm also on X, but I hardly ever talk about NIN over there. I used to bring it up frequently, but after discovering Tumblr, I decided to write about NIN here instead.

So now on X, I pretty much only write about my favorite techno dance stuff.

NIN and techno dance music... these two are polar opposites. Take the Chemical Brothers, for example.

At least for me, listening to the Chemical Brothers has never once made me feel negative. It doesn't exactly lift my spirits, but listening to "Star Guitar" has never once made me confront past wounds. Hearing this song doesn't make me feel pain.

"Though I might still tear up remembering old loves..."

It never turns negative, but instead, I always experience this feeling of my soul becoming incredibly purified.

"Soul cleansing"—that's what techno dance music, starting with the Chemical Brothers, is for me.

And then there's NIN. The moment Trent's voice starts playing, I'm instantly forced to remember all the pain I've endured. It's so unbearable, the tears won't stop... But that doesn't necessarily mean I'm plunged into misery. It's definitely a memory I never want to recall, and sometimes remembering it makes me want to vomit. So why do I deliberately listen to NIN, knowing it will inevitably torment me? ...I can't explain it myself. I can't explain it even though it's about me.

If I had to force an explanation, I'd answer like this:

"Because listening to NIN purifies my pain in a way. And mixed in is also a desire for Trent Reznor to hurt me even more."

Yes. NIN also has this effect of purifying my soul. There's a kind of joy and pleasure within the pain...

I really can't explain it well, but it's roughly like that.
