He’d heard rumors, sure, but Paul was too focused trying to rekindle that feeling of being human again to care. He wasn’t a human anymore but he wanted to live his life, he was sentient and had a lot of possibilities of what he could do as so much time had passed, but he could only remember so much as the logs let him. They ended at... The Red Angel. I don’t exist. I died that day.

“This,” Paul looked around them, now that they had settled into Chen being there, and now that he’d gotten a moment alone with her, “is where I work.” He had brought her back into the lab, back where the portal was. It had been stabilized, and they could remain in the room without any danger. 

He felt almost nervous, though he’d been around Chen for a while, and he was used to her, having her in his world, in his home, felt almost as though they were meeting for the first time. Which-- had it been, he wouldn’t have been nervous. No, this was akin to bringing her into his home. He supposed this was his home. 

         ❛ Technically, you’ll be dead when you're dead. ❜    Semantics, but Una could not help herself.    ❛ But point taken. ❜    With the faintest glimmer of a smile, Una handed the padd across to her. It contained all the information she’d been able to glean. Commander Burnham deserved to have them, whatever instructions the CMO might have given to her regarding rest.

“Commander... what the hell is going on.” It wasn’t that the ship’s gravity had been turned off, it seemed to go deeper than that, entire rooms were flipped inside out, bits and pieces of padds littered the floor. “Did we jump and miss the landing?” Of course they did not jump, he didn’t order it, and Saru most certainly would have run a jump by him, but it seemed the only fitting question.
