Jonny didn’t fit in here, not in the slightest, but he didn’t want to fit in, anyway. It wasn’t like there was any benefit to fitting in, and he liked standing out. He liked how he looked in his sequined tuxedo and he liked his shiny pocket watch and he liked attracting all the wrong kinds of attention. Even then, as he got out of an argument between two other people that he had started, he started to attract more attention by draining multiple drinks without even thinking about it, downing one after another like it was nothing until he felt a good buzz going in his head. “Hey, go ‘head and bring out some more of this, huh?”

VIP. Now that was more like it, Zach loved nothing more than being important, and while he did feel like this ball was a wasted effort at trying to get the supers on side, being charitable was always good for a reputation. Plus, he looked awesome in his new suit, bought for the occasion, he’d dropped his cane and gloves off in reception, though he’d kept the top-hat and settled happily into the roped off section, taking a sip from his first flute of champagne, he planned on having quite a few more before the evening ended.

Anna adjusted her gloves near the elbow, tucking them further up her arms, and crossed the threshold into the theater lobby. Attending alone didn’t frighten her. She’d been in her share of dangerous situations - and this didn’t feel like one of them, especially because she knew she would be surrounded by allies, mutants ready to fight if things went south. 

Oliver wanted a drink, but he decided against it, instead just looking up at the front of the room, where the stage was with politicians and public figures glad-handing and pretending to care, his lips pursed slightly. He wasn’t in the VIP section, hating that he was even grouped together with that crowd of tasteless aristocrats. Oliver had donated to the auction, hoping that the money would go towards the city, but knowing that it was probably going to pay for all this, instead. His cynicism grew almost unbearable—he stepped outside for a breath of fresh air.

This was ridiculous. Emma could hardly contain her annoyance, bordering on full-blown rage, as humans stood around, chatting about the auction as if this very auction was going to solve the rift between mutantkind and humankind. Disgusting.

Selina was standing among some of the other VIP guests for so long that she could feel her will to live slowly getting drained from her mind. After glad-handing and shaking hands with people who she knew didn’t care about her or about the city as a whole, she needed a break, so she strode out into the slightly chilly air, bumming a cigarette off someone nearby and smoking while leaning against the wall, wanting nothing more at that point to go home.

The wind was cold on Arthur's face as he stood impassive on the rooftop. There was a slight chill in the air, though the skies above hinted no rain.

Jason slid one hand into his pocket, his other hand holding a glass. Unlike many of the other ARGUS agents assigned to the auction, he was decidedly more practiced at being in this kind of environment, and as a result, he looked a lot more relaxed than most of the others, leading many to believe that he was there by choice. “Listen,” he said to the person who was talking to him. “I would really like to continue this conversation,” he said, totally disinterested in continuing the conversation. “But I have work to do.” The person left, somewhat scandalized, and he snorted. “You’d think they’ve never worked a day in their lives. Probably haven’t.”
