Dandelion: hmmm a pet peeve of mine is when people condescend, either to me or to people around me. this is often sign-posted by the terms likeĀ ālookā¦ā or,Ā ālistenā¦ā because those are so often used when someone is already paying attention to whatever is being said, and used to emphasize supposed inattention, or inability to discern the point that is being articulated, when usually the recipient is already ālookingā orĀ ālisteningāā¦this is one of the things I actually told Ian I didnāt like, on one of the first times we ever hung out, because we were discussing particular things that we didnāt like other people around us to do or say.
another very inconsequential pet peeve: it gives me the fucking heebie-jeebies to see people bite into popsicles. likeā¦hardcore sympathetic pains in my teeth gumsā¦my mom and brother fucking chomp away on ice and popsicles and my sister and I always have physical, visceral reactions when we see them do thisā¦idk why
Brussels Sproutlet: oh for sureeeeee. 1. I def drink more alcohol than I should. This is in part a reaction to grad school, but also an unfortunate consequence of how alcohol-laden field work is. If you canāt drink heavily, you arenāt viewed as a legitimate scholar/participant, and Iāve definitely fallen into that and not tried too hard to resist the unnecessary and unhealthy lifestyle that field archaeology can facilitate. 2. I spend waaaaay too much time on Tumblr/reading fanfic. I will advocate for the legitimacy of fanfic within the literary canon until my dying dayā¦but I spend SO MUCH of my life reading fic. Honestly this probably just ties into spending too much of my life with my eyeballs glued onto my screen. But because I do such a variety of activities on my laptop every day, my brain gets tricked into thinking that I havenāt been staring at one lit-up surface for hours on end, and I get away with totally frying it, reading fanfic until the wee hours of the night, after the hours of academic reading and writing I do every day.
