M16 - Eagles Nebula - Star Formation
Inside these long columns of dust and gas, stars are being formed. The columns are not solid but merely look it due to the dust that obscures, reflects light, but if you were to travel there, you could pass right through.
Only the biggest shine through, which will eventually turn into blue giants, and live a mere few million years before going supernova, but hidden within will be many hundreds of smaller type stars, A, G (like our Sun), K and M types.
The latter will go on to live for billions of years, will leave the cradle and become a star like our own orbiting our galaxy, most will have binary partners, some could have much larger binary partners that will eventually collapse and give a neutron star or even a black hole as a binary partner for the smaller one.
