Very few people are as pedantic as a person defending their interests so I propose that somebody trying to dethrone Paulina’s popularity spot calls her out as a necrophile for being into Phantom. Paulina, in response, smoothly corrects them that she is a phasmophile, thank you very much. She wants nothing to do with his corpse, as that is clearly not Phantom himself. Maybe Star tosses in the way that this perspective reinforces that your sex is not your gender, as mind-body dualism is basically confirmed by the ghosts existing.

Summary:
"Actually, that's better than waiting around for Jazz to ask me about my mental state. Sure, why not."
"She's gonna catch you at some point, Flynn."
"And I'll do my best to avoid that," Flynn said, "I've done just fine running away from my problems for the last decade or so, no need to change what's good."
"Is it, though?"
OR
Aftermath of Danny being attacked and things need to be discussed.
In the near dark and thinning light, a soft transition of golden color marked twilight as the sun no longer peaked over the densely wooded hills.
In no way did it reflect the moods of the study group, now one member short.
"Oh my God, oh my-what do we do?" Gina gasped bringing her dark fingers toward her face around the straps on her backpack holding on as if she were the next to be swallowed up.
Star's academic fascination was gone and her knowledge of the paranormal seemed to be depleted as she shook her head numbly.
Kwan circled the ring of mushrooms now dyed orange in the twilight and offering no answers.
Dash grit his teeth.
"He's faking it." He said flatly even as his heart pounded. "Fenton's gotta have some crazy invention that made him do that."
Kwan picked up a jagged gray stone from the forest floor and took a step back. He tossed it into the circle and nothing happened. The rock bounced in the grass leaving more impact than Fenton did when he fell.
"See," Dash pointed at the mushrooms. "It's not a portal. Fenton's pulling a fast one on us."
"I dunno, dude. Maybe the fairies didn't want the rock now that..." Kwan's eyes widened and he pointed at Dash. "You sacrificed Fenton!"
Star crossed her arms against the quickly approaching cold and to protect herself from the accusation laying heavy in the air.
Gina gasped softly and Nathan frowned.
Now all attention was on Dash.
He frowned at them.
"I didn't sacrifice, Fenton. Look." his heart leapt to his throat as he stepped into what was apparently sacred territory. The others startled and he smirked at them from the middle of the ring.
"See? Nothing."
Kwan shook his head.
"You gave them Fenton. He was the offering and now we're safe from the fairy people." Kwan looked down and around as if little wings would flap into sight. "This is messed up, dude."
Dash bristled.
"Shut up, Fenton's fine."
"Then where is he?" Star glared at him and Dash found his own bravado fading as the girl also managed to look worried about that loser.
"I dunno. Probably back at camp laughing it up with his freaky friends." they were probably in on it. They probably set all of this up to make him look bad.
"Take us back to camp." He snapped at Kwan who looked again at the mushrooms the best he could in the fading light.
"You really think he could do that?" He wondered. "The gadget just makes him fall through stuff. How could he come back up? What if he's still falling and we're about to leave him here?"
Dash stood there thinking about it.
If Fenton really was taken by fairies then he's gonna be in big trouble for losing a group member.
If he wasn't taken by fairies and he really did fall through the earth then Kwan was right.
What if Fenton was still falling? What if he didn't come back up? What if he tried to stop himself by turning tangible again and got stuck underground somewhere miles below the surface?
What if Fenton was worse than dead?
He frowned.
And what if this really was a dumb joke and the boy was back at camp somehow?
His throat felt tight despite repeating his preference.
"Either way, we need to get back to camp. There's nothing we can do to help Fenton if something is wrong..."
The others looked at him, then slowly came to an agreement. They were all weak. Dash was strong but he didn't have the tools he needed to help Fenton if anything was wrong.
Maybe his friends knew more about these fairies or whatever stunt Fenton pulled.
This better be a stunt.
If it was, Fenton would be dead for real before this weekend was over.
For his own sake, Danny Fenton better be dancing in the twilight.
Star Thunder had her act together just fine, thank you. She was at school on time every morning, her friends were the most popular. She had plans every weekend. She got to go and enjoy herself on the weekends because she did all of her homework in a timely manner and even did extra to boost her grades. Sometimes, she even did a little something to use as bribes. Take-home quizzes, term papers, and art projects were all things she could use to sway favor and get some cash.
Unfortunately, this was a well known fact and brought Tucker Foley to her on what would have been a peaceful Tuesday morning.
"No way."
Star slammed her locker, glaring at the boy. "It's not my problem Fenton didn't do his work. He still has all next week to finish and it only takes like four hours."
"Come on, Star. The only time he got above a C last year was when you did his homework during the beauty pageant."
"That didn't exactly work out for me, did it?"
"He can't fail. I'll pay you."
"You're notoriously broke, Foley." though the idea that she was smarter than either of them made her smile. The look must have given the boy courage because he persisted.
"Yeah but I have stuff. What do you want?"
Pushy jerk. Her smile turned to a smirk.
"Dead Teacher collectors set"
"Done."
Star blinked at him. She said it sarcastically, the box set featuring all 11 Dead Teacher movies, extended director's cuts, behind the scenes footage, and documentary with that guy who now haunts the remakes was expensive and incredibly rare. They only made a thousand and each one was signed by the director.
"Why?"
"Because Danny's my best friend. He's going through some stuff and this was the only project he didn't at least start. I'll help him finish the others and combined we'll pull at least a C."
Star crossed her arms.
"You didn't do yours either?" she asked irritably. Star was very organized. When people didn't do their work or lost track of time, she had a hard time giving sympathy. Dash in particular was a repeat offender.
"I did... He's been doing a lot of this stuff by himself." He bites his lip as if he regretted saying even that lame tidbit. She brushed some of her hair behind her ear rustling the flower clip. Her voice was starting to lose the stiffness, the ice.
"Not stuff you can help with?"
Foley looked away.
"Not all of it. But I can help with this." He looked up again and determination caught her off guard. "Danny's my best friend. He does so much for me, this is the least I can do for him."
Star looked at him oddly.
Fenton was a flake. Everyone knew that. There weren't too many people who knew him personally and he fluctuated between trying way too hard to fit in and not caring what anyone thought. At least he used to.
Walking by Fenton Works, it wasn't hard to guess why Danny had been down recently. Well, down more than normal. The guy seemed sad a lot… having parents like that must be rough.
"Fine."
"What?"
"I said fine, dweeb. I'll make him a solid B+ paper but only because it's Christmas and I'm feeling like a gift to the world."
Foley smiled so wide. She wondered if she had ever seen him so happy.
"You are! You're a shining star! A true gift-"
"Don't push it, Foley."
"Got it. Thanks Star, you really are making a huge difference." the boy ran off and she rolled her eyes. He was so excited. She imagined his face when she turned over the paper and revealed she didn't even want the DVDS.
Another background character could also be Star's brother, as well as Blond Goth David. @monotype-on-phantom had nicknamed one Johnny Test. A short boy with spiky blond hair and green eyes, he screamed at Jazz in Brothers Keeper and about the ghost hornet and threw himself into a locker, crushing his own leg. They headcannoned that the boy is Star's younger brother, super smart like Star is, smart enough to skip ahead a few years, but unlike Star he is a total spazz (and that Lance Thunder, the meteorologist and Ghost Watch reporter, is her dad, making her Star Thunder). It must take a great deal of effort on Star's part to remain popular when her older and younger brothers are very much not. Being dedicated to whatever you deem important could be a family trait, be it being very goth or socially attuned or academic.
ooh I was already super on board with Star being Lance Thunder's kid and I've been running with that with David and his now twin brother Dwayne
but I like the idea about the other kid! I think I know the one you mean, the little spiky blond haired kid that shows up quite a few times in the background (I never realised but he really does look like Johnny Test pffffttt)
I actually really dig the idea that Star's youngest brother is a complete nerd, and her older brothers are weirdo goths, and she's in the centre trying to maintain her popularity
following the Lost Boys theme I've had going with the names, I propose the younger brother be named Marko

Star was getting sick and tired of the same bull coming from her fellow school news club member, and decided to shut down his raving lunacy with her favorite weapon: questions.
“Alright, Wesley, if Fenton is Phantom then what was the cause of death?”
The ginger giraffe paused in his gesticulating with a spork and stared at her like a deer in headlights. He furrowed his brow and set his hands on the table - unsanitary, note made not to touch him.
“What?”
“It’s a simple question, Wes. You’re saying that Danny Fenton is the ghost Danny Phantom, which requires that he died - recently at that. So, how’d he die? What happened that his spirit lingers on this plane or whatever?”
“That’s a good question, Star. If Fenton had died, wouldn’t we know? Wouldn’t his parents tell everyone?”
“Hell, dude, wouldn’t your Dad have told you if your cousin, Fentonail, died? And why would a ghost even go to school, let alone Fenton’s ghost.”
“You can’t honestly tell me you’ve been saying you’re cous is a ghost and not thought about how that would mean hw’s dead, have you? That’s a real important step in the process, dude.”
Wes was pale, staring down at his lunch, and had finally shut up. Star considered that a success.
Dash, of course, had to ruin it.
“How do we think Phantom died? Wasn’t he in like, ancient Rome?”
Halfa!Valerie getting a security jacket is a little funny and could play into the fake backstory. Like, “She was a teen in the 80s who just wanted to keep people safe. So her first job was being a security guard. But something went horribly wrong and now, years later, she returns to keep the town she died in safe”… [1/2]
I mean Danny never had a cover story like that, but I'm approaching Val from a different angle for one very important reason
she's friends with Star
and I have had a long running headcanon, ever since Beauty Marked where she does all of Danny's homework in advance to bribe him into choosing her for the beauty contest, that she is wicked smart
I actually go into this in my fic Undercover, where she turns out to be a devious and valuable asset for information gathering, but she only ever gossips for a price
so Star being involved in this secret identity business makes everything completely different, she would take extra steps to keep Valerie safe, she would think up more clever ways to cement the Gray Ghost as someone different from Valerie Gray
I've even been tossing up whether to give her a mask, I've had some excellent suggestions on the matter from a lot of people, so I've yet to decide on that for sure
also Paulina, Star AND Valerie are all very fashion conscious, they would put thought and effort into a ghost costume, including consideration for what particular time era they'd be working with, which would by nature give people an impression of when the Gray Ghost died
any stories that rise from that would be spurned on by Casper High's two biggest gossips
