You have undoubtedly seen the events unfold in Charlottesville over the past week. We feel it is important to let you know that we at Planned Parenthood condemn the actions of white supremacists and reject bigotry of all kinds. The rally in Charlottesville was an explicit display of the racism that still exists in our nation, led by people who came prepared for confrontation. We will not stand for this and we will work relentlessly and collectively to put an end to white supremacy.
Many of you are asking what you can do. It is critical that all of us think through and take a deeper look at what these actions mean for us and our communities. Here are a few suggestions to take action and fight back against racism and hate:
Listen to the critiques of black, indigenous and people of color (POC).
Speak up when someone says or does something racist, don't just let it go because it is uncomfortable to address head on.
Donate your resources: Solidarity Cville Anti-Racist Legal Fund, Southern Poverty Law Center, University of Virginia, and Legal Aid Justice Center.
Attend solidarity events and show you stand for respect and inclusion.
None of us can be silent or neutral. Itβs on all of us to confront racism and dismantle white supremacy. #StandWithCharlottesville

Wonkified Day 8 The Beatles - "all you need is love" Well a song a day is proving to be hard until I build momentum. Writing tunes or internalizing someone else's takes soooo much time and some weeks where the heck does the time go? So this one is as raw as it gets. The recent happenings in Charlottesville, VA have swirled up all kinds of things in me. This is a town that I call my second home. For Wonk. For Jasmine. The footage taken by my friends during the events tears my heart into a thousand pieces. Yesterday I attended the #standwithcharlottesville gathering in Cincinnati, OH. And while I battled with things to write on a sign all I could think was love. So I carried a glittery heart and made my other hand into a peace sign. Hippy right? So 1962. This IS 1962. No matter your beliefs there is a very simple notion that we are all humans. We all need Love in one form or another. I believe that life is a circle. We are not the Jetsons. We have not come far from the horrors of the past, just repackaged Human in the the language of today. And while this could be sad and hopeless it is also incredibly empowering; leverage in existentialism. Heck. A month ago I just played "love fest" in charlottesville regarding this very thing. We can choose to fight, and some of us are meant to. I was born, this time, to Love. I will fight. I will fight by spreading love. I will fight by living. I will fight by speaking boldly and listening intently. I will fight by being alive. Resisting the darkness and helping others to do the same. Don't lose faith in this life. In today. Make it what you can, while you can. So! With those things in mind I fell asleep in my flowers with my guitar, Clara by my side and literally woke up singing "all you need is love." So, since time is short and I probably couldn't record later I looked up the chords, as I had ever even read the words before, and hit record. My hair is a mess. My voice is hardly woken up. Poor Clara is slightly out of tune from sleeping next to me. Hug someone. Breathe. Smile. Love and light friends. Shine on. π . .

"The fact that these guys went to Walmart and bought Tiki torches makes me laugh. You kind have to laugh. If you can't laugh, there's not much you can do. I knew this would be a fairly heavy (event). I thought this would be a way to lighten it up a little bit," Scharf said.
