‘   Dean,  mate.   ’     No  good  sentence  ever  starts  this  way.  He’s  sure  years  of  friendship  has  Dean  already  knowing  this  and  yet,  arm  still  slides  carefully  around  his  best  pal’s  shoulder  and  he  pulls  him  closer,  as  if  attempting  to  also  pull  him  into  a  false  sense  of  security.  The  kind  that  only  comes  when  Seamus  is  up  to  no  good.  Charm  is  turned  up  to  full,  just  like  it  always  is  when  he’s  trying  to  persuade  the  other  to  be  his  partner  in  crime  in  a  scheme  that  very  clearly  won’t  actually  work.     ‘   Deano.  Deanster.  The  Dean  Machine.  Y’hear  there’s  a  special  celebration  later  tonight?   ’     Voice  lowers,  mostly  for  dramatic  effect.  Partly  because  he  wouldn’t  be  surprised  if  the  Malfoys  had  ears  everywhere.     ‘   The  Malfoys  are  throwing  a  ball.  Now,  I  know  we  didn’t  get  invites,  but  I  figure,  that  shit  never  stopped  Cinderella,  right?  I  think  we  should  turn  our  pumpkin  into  a  carriage  and  go.  What  say  you?   ’     It’s  a  rhetorical  question.  Seamus  is  going  with  or  without  Dean,  but  experience  tells  them  both  that  he’s  more  likely  to  survive  if  they  stick  together.
