1997 Staglin Family Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford, Napa There is an overwhelming sensibility of elegance right away from this '97... And while I often credit staglin for being lush and texturally "big" and powerful, this lovely wine has developed into a ballerina. Long and supple across the palate with bright, fresh acidity you could easily be fooled into thinking there is only medium tannin here... But look again! Tannin abounds but is plush and ripe and soft and elegant and just plain lovely. Aromatically there's nothing wildly unexpected here, but this is classic, textbook, fantastic Napa Cab. Can I get an Amen? -JL
