There has been another altercation involving Joyce Manor and stage-diving on their current tour, with the band stopping their song 'Constant Headache' so frontman Barry Johnson could take part in a screaming match against the "patriotic straight-edge piece of shit" stage diver.

Alright, hereâs the deal. You know how people always say âdonât go into a relationship thinking you can change the other person?â When you try to change the other person, it just causes resentment. And why are you trying to force change when you knew what you were getting into to begin with?
Well, I say exactly that to Joyce Manor and this whole situation. Donât go into your touring career thinking you can change how your fans act and how they enjoy your music. You play punk music. Stage diving comes with the territory. If you really canât stand it that much, then donât play punk music! And if you really like the music, well then thatâs cool keep making it, but donât play shows. (Though I donât really need to say that, because itâs only a matter of time before people stop going to your shows altogether..)
Punk shows are a unique type of environment. The atmosphere and the fans are much different than any other shows. Anyone who knows anything about the genre knows without a doubt that these shows are rowdy. Honestly, if your priority were to keep the fans safe, ok thatâs understandable. (Though, the kids already know what they are getting into when they go to these shows. Again, it comes with the territory.) But since you are calling fans things like âpatriotic straight edge piece of shit,â Iâm thinking their safety is not what youâre concerned about and you are just a pretentious asshole.
Itâs only a matter of time before the short-lived popularity youâve gained from the corners of the punk side of Tumblr dies out and youâre replaced with an artist with the same talent but who actually embraces their fans and the scene that they are in.
