Since 1939, the Brooklyn Museum has periodically displayed work by its staff, celebrating the importance of creativity and artistic expression in both professional and personal capacities. This is especially true for this year. Many of the works presented in the 2021 Staff Art Exhibition were created during the COVID-19 pandemic, when, for the first time in our recent history, the Museum closed its doors to the public for an extended period and limited access to essential staff only. Exploring themes such as community, loss, and resilience, this staff exhibition is the first in more than a decade to be on view to the public. After more than 18 months of collaborating virtually and in person, in solitude and in solidarity, a community of colleagues has come together to present their work with renewed commitment to the vision of the Museum as a space where great art and courageous conversations are catalysts for a more connected, civic, and empathetic world. Closing January 2, this is the last week to see works from nearly 50 talented Brooklyn Museum staff members—catch them on view in our first-floor education gallery.
