“Shit!”
Grinding his teeth, Sasuke gripped the Magnum tucked in his combats. The door shuddered behind his weight as the things thudded against the door. He could hear them scratching at the hardwood, gurgling, retching, wailing. Hooking a table leg with his foot, he levered himself using the handle to swing his body round to slam the object against the entrance in his stead.
He’s scared.
Sasuke Uchiha’s life has been nothing but brutal from the day he turned eight. He had seen death, witnessed the life leave his parent's eyes whilst he sat helplessly. He had taken lives, slaughtering hundreds of people in the line of duty – blood flowed in his wake. Destruction became normality for years until he met his team…and Sakura. Sasuke cursed as he turned his attention to the woman he’d unceremoniously deposited on floor in his rush to blockade them in the room. Bending down he hooked her neck in the crook of his arm, curving her body into his chest. Sasuke scanned her torso, his eyes darting to the crimson stained linen he wrapped around her stomach in an effort to stem the bleeding.
“Shit, shit, shit…” Sasuke whispered each curse emphasised buy the panic building as he assessed the damage. Sakura had drifted into unconsciousness half an hour after the initial onslaught of the herd attack. A supply run into the city was a bad idea from the start and he should have listened to his gut. But the deadlast, ever the optimist, insisted it was necessary. ‘You’ll be fine, your too much of an asshole to die and Sakura-chan is smart.’ Naruto’s words echoed.
Famous last words. Sasuke vowed to give the blonde a fat lip when they returned to base.
“You can’t fucking die on me,” He spat the words at her, unable to contain his anger “you hear me?!” Fate seemed to love singling him out as the ‘lucky’ soul who lost precious people.
Not this time. Sasuke was not willing to give her up and as Sakura reminded him constantly – he’s a selfish, possessive bastard. Shifting her weight, he placed a kiss on her forehead not minding the mingled sweat and dirt. Finding comfort in the warmth of her body through his cracked lips, he hauled her dead weight into his arms. There was no sign of a fever, Sasuke wouldn’t call himself a man of faith but at that moment, he said a silent prayer. Shooting her would be his last mission. He could not desecrate her memory and allow her to become a mindless flesh-eating creature. Plus finding the strength to continue living in this shithole without her – not going to happen.
Sasuke planned to die with dignity beside her if their options ran out.
The undead are relentless in their drive to feed on flesh, they could smell her wound. It needed to be cauterised, but it was not an option in the current conditions. Sasuke sees the splinters appearing in the wood in his periphery, mentally giving them 5 minutes to escape. Marching to the window he paused, the old water mill had a stunning view. He could see rooftops and rolling hills in the far distance. He could follow the river upwards into the countryside if he found a boat and prevent the undead following her scent.
“Sa..suke..” Sakura croaked, the syllables barely forming. Seafoam eyes gazed up at him under drooping lids, her skin a worrying shade of grey.
“I’m sor-“ Cold fingers raised to trace the straight bridge of his nose to his brow and brushing strands of hair from his face.
“Shut up.” Cutting her off sharply, Sasuke yanked the window up with such force it cracked a glass panel. No apologies are required, she is a doctor not a soldier. He never expected her to keep up with his stamina or his expertise in killing.
“We’re leaving,” He jumped. Survivors didn’t get to play safe in this hellscape.

It’s been a long ass time since I've written and even longer since I’ve written for the SS fandom. I hope you like my entry for SSS weekend. I love apocolyptic scenarios, so I had to participate with the AU prompt haha.

“Come on, dear. Please stop..."
She just wouldn't.
"Papa! P-papa!" She would just repeat that all over again.
Sakura paced towards Sarada’s crib, planning to carry her with the hopes that her tantrum would subside. But the moment she reached out to her—
“I want Papa now! Please, Mama!" She croaked with her tiny voice. "I miss Papa!"
The Uchiha matriarch almost fell on her knees as her daughter continued to cry out.
She sat on the bed beside her crib and leaned near her. If only an explanation of many words would be understood by a three year old. "Sarada, sweetie...Papa isn't coming home."
"Why, Mama? Why?" Little Sarada paused, but her tears were nonstop.
Sakura looked away. She struggled to find the right words, trying to think of an excuse about the rash decisions that led to their current situation now. She pinched the bridge of her nose. It shouldn’t have come to this, to the point that their daughter would be affected.
“Sweetie, just...calm down, please."
Sarada stared at her with glassy charcoal eyes, tears still streaming down her cheeks, and then she cried, “Mama, I want Papa here! Here! Here!"
Her heart clenched at the sight, she had never seen her baby this hurt. And what pains her the most was the fact that it was because of her and Sasuke.
Then, the idea finally settled in...
“Okay, okay. Calm down."
Sakura got her phone from the table on the other side of the bed. Her hands were shaking; her tears almost coming out. I didn't have to do this...
She didn't have to go to her list of contacts anymore just to look at his number, besides she memorized it, just like how she memorized every single detail about him.
She took a deep breath before pressing the call button. One ring, two rings, three rings...no answer. She cancelled, and then called again, with much conviction this time. It was actually difficult for her to concentrate as Sarada's muffled cry continued to fill the room.
"Ssh..." She told her, as if that would make sense.
"Hello?" Oh, gosh. What am I going to say? Sasuke finally answered his cell phone. It was apparent that his voice was serious, angry even, because who in their right mind would call someone at 2AM?
"Uhmm...good morning, Sasuke. Sorry." She paused. "But this is...this is about Sarada."
"Huh? What happened to her?" There was a noticeable change in his voice, from an angry husband to a concerned father. And it was enough to calm Sakura's nerves as she continued to speak with him.
"She just wouldn't stop. She—"
"P-papa!" Sarada screamed.
Sakura’s head fell on her hand. There was no point hesitating now. "She wants you to be here, Sasuke." Tears trickled down her face, but she kept her composure for she didn't want to sound like she’s crying. I didn't want to see him yet...
There was silence on both lines aside from the ringing cries of their daughter. Sakura didn't know if Sasuke's still on the phone. Every tick of the clock increased her anxiety about what Sasuke might be thinking at the moment, for she didn’t want him to think that she was using their child to force him to come back. They both needed this space after all.
She heard him sigh after a moment, "Okay. I'm coming over."
"T-thanks," she muttered, and then hung up.
