I'm so glad to hear you're watching s2 of Sabrina because I got into it when you watched it last year. What do you think so far?
I fell asleep watching episode 4 I think it was. The rain/tarot reader episode, whatever it is but I think it's 4.
Based on what I've seen I'm of the same opinion of last season: this show is two degrees away from being a truly good series with solid characters but the writers keep making THE DUMBEST decisions and ruin it instead. In season 1 they were one degree away from being a great show aka it was slightly better than this season. The line between a truly well written series revolving around compelling characters in an interesting universe was SO THIN in season 1...they were literally right the fuck there but kept straying away from it every chance they got. The entire time I was watching last year I kept imagining the writers standing at a metaphorical intersection where if you go right you get to make a really compelling character/narrative choice that will elevate your show but if you go left you choose the most basic and cliche shit AND THEY CHOSE LEFT EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME. Now that we're deeper into the show they're carrying a bunch of mistakes from season 1 into season 2 and they keep veering further away from the possibility of fixing this.
I'm loving Sabrina and Nick because that's just what I've been wanting to happen since last season but they're even managing to fuck that up. The reason why that pairing seems interesting is because the possibility of nuances with Nick is (was?) almost endless. You could do a lot with him as a stand alone but also with his relationship with her. He was not just an interesting character but pairing him with Sabrina made sense for her development as well. This season the writers have completely forgotten what the word "subtlety" means and they're making the whole "don't trust him" thing SO HEAVY HANDED and as impossible as it seemed, they're in turn making Sabrina seem even dumber than she already came across in season one. Jesus fuck, make it ambiguous. Have people go back and forth on the "should I or shouldn't I trust him? 🤔🤔🤔" but they keep hitting the viewer over the head with shit and it's just Too Much.
That's my rational brain interpretation of season 2. My monkey brain on the other hand just keeps going "MY BABIES I LOVE THEM LOOK AT THEM WOW PERFECTION YESSSSS". So...clearly...two sides of this experience 😂😂😂
The one smart thing they've actually done this season is give Harvey less screen time. His character is truly grating and the actor is fucking atrocious so not seeing him on my screen as often is grounds for me saying "Thank you dark lord."
