biography
Just fourteen minutes was all it took to give twins Mason and Madison different birthdays. Born to Up With People members Patrick and Danielle McCarthy, most of Masons’ earliest memories are with the nannies his parents hired to look after him and his sister. Though they weren’t there physically or emotionally, they were always willing to financially support their children’s respective interests.
It wasn’t until Mason was older and in high school that he developed his love of music. It was when he started staying up late to work on his homework and initially it was just there to keep him awake. As time went on though the music really started to become an obsession and he’d spend his lunch hour picking through his lunch and writing his own original music in a beat up old notebook. This past summer he’s started working on his own arrangements and mashups of popular top 40 hits; all things that he’s kept from Madison. While his sister was always his biggest support system it was apparent from a young age that people viewed him and his sister as a set and finally he had something that was uniquely his own, and other than his birthday he didn’t have a lot of that. Mason has always known that he’s interested in other men, but it’s also been something that he has never really allowed himself to explore. Dating girls was hard enough for Mason, putting himself out there was a lot for him so putting himself out there in a way that could potentially isolate him has always felt immobilizing. As he’s gotten older he’s tried to tell himself that people are more accepting and that it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he were ever to stop being so restrictive. It’s still very much something that’s struggling with.
