Kurt Elizabeth Hummel was born on a rainy day that happens to be the 27th of May as the son of Burt and Elizabeth Hummel. Both of them were so very happy when their little family was completed and they could not have been more loving. From a young age Kurt did not have the typical boy interests. He wasn’t one of those kids who played ball with their Dads or joined the little league to play baseball. Instead he loved to have little tea parties in the garden. He would often dance through the living room with his mother, singing her favorite songs. So while he loves his father, there always was a special bond between him and his mother. One could say he is her spitting image. So, when Elizabeth was diagnosed with blood cancer when he was seven, it was a shock for all of them. She was strong though and battled her illness for a year, until she finally lost and closed her eyes forever. Leaving her beloved husband and son behind.
It was hard for the both of them. Burt, who was loving but more an introverted person suddenly was alone with a son who was so very different from him and who he had trouble understanding. Add to that that both of them were heartbroken and the coming few years were the toughest for them. However, they found a way to work together. As Kurt got older, he himself noticed more and more just how different he was. And for the longest time he wasn’t sure just why. It took him a while until he knew that he was gay. For a while, he told no one. It was hard enough already as it was. He was scared that his father would stop loving him. And at school? Well, dumpster diving practically was a daily occurrence already. And he didn’t want to make it worse. The usually very open and happy boy became more and more quiet and introverted. Kept to himself. Felt invisible.
But all of that changed around 2 years ago. Suddenly, his father pushed him into joining a Team. Obviously he had something sport related in his mind. However, Kurt saw that the Glee Club was looking for members. And he decided to audition. Later, he knew that this in a way saved his life. Joining this group where he could be himself, felt safe, could be who he was. It gave him the strength he was lacking before. It gave him the courage to come out as well last year. First to his father. And his reaction surprised him. Basically, his father had known. Ever since he had requested a pair of red heels for his third birthday. And he came out to his school. While his friends are supportive, things did get harder after this. In a way it was as if he had put a target onto his back. However he decided to not back down and hide again. Yes, it is hard and there are days where he simply lies in his bed at night and cries, but he gets up the next day and does not give up, not letting himself get back to that dark place again. Now a new year just has started and he is looking forward to just what this year will bring.
