The letter is dated 14thof Cloudsreach, 9:47 Dragon
Warden-Commander Dernheim,
Warden-Commander Mahariel has respectfully, and quite firmly, refused the First Warden’s invitation to take up the position of High Constable. My wife has no interest in leaving her homeland, where she quite enjoys the cold and long winters we have in Fereldan. Very enjoyable.
She has told me to relay a message I will not repeat out of politeness and will instead paraphrase: Just because she was a hero once, doesn’t mean she needs to be a hero forever. Since coming out of seclusion several years ago, she wishes to remain in Fereldan for the remainder of her days. Perhaps Orlais and the Free Marches from time to time as well, but she wants to stay with myself and our daughter.
And no, your magical griffons are no substantial temptation. Did you know Haneia is terrified of heights? Wouldn’t go over well, I assure you.
In hopes we won’t be hearing from you again,
Warden-Constable Alistair
A post script is scribbled beneath Alistair’s signature, in a different hand.
You shemlen griffon riders won’t have my mother! Fereldan would fall apart again without her, and you know it!
