She is a daughter of Marisha and Aryaka Shoora. Her siblings include Kunti, Vasudeva, Srutadevi, Srutakeerti, Prithukeerti and Rajadhidevi. She is married to Damaghosha and is the queen of Chedi.
Her son Shishupala, encouraged by Jarasandha, engages in a lifelong enmity with her brother Vasudeva's son Krishna until the latter finally kills him after he launches into a barrage of insults.
Krishna seems to be close to her, as he uses her as an excuse to go to Vidarbha on the eve of Shishupala marriage to Rukmini (and kidnaps her under this cover), and forgives over a hundred insults by Shishupala on her personal request.
