Seacon Square Shopping Center is a mid-sized shopping center located in the district of Prawet in Srinakarin which is very near the famous King Rama IX botanical gardens and the famous Talad Rot Fai weekend market. This particular shopping center is also very popular for its weekly events which are based on many different themes ranging from historical setups to even mini zoos in the complex.

This week from the 9th till the 20th of May, one can experience the olden days of King Narai and his court in Ayutthaya. Titled “The ancient cuisine of King Narai in old Ayutthaya”, the whole center court is made to look much like olden Ayutthaya complete with village houses and even chicken coops.

A mock village house stage features some dance entertainment for the crowds as well as a staged diorama of the King Narai and a French  official as portrayed by the popular TV series “bùp-pay-săn-ní-wâat” or “บุพเพสันนิวาส”.

One can also see what the old currency use to look like and it is definitely not like the paper notes of today but made of a metal which was probably a mixture of lead and nickle and looked much like little buck-shot pallets.

There is off course a never ending array of Thai food in all its glory from the simple mango with sticky rice to the more complicated chili pastes and even a really wonderful khanom jin noodle that is an absolute must-try. This fair is on every day of the week until the 20th May 2018 and if you want to try some really great homemade Thai food, this is the place to go.

You can also watch how a special Thai dessert which looks like flowers are made. It involves a much needed patience to form the delicate rose like petals from a dough and crafted layer by layer. These were how such desserts were made in those days and still are made today by hand rather than mass-produced by machines.

How to get to Seacon Square:

Take a bus number 145 from Mochit is the most common and if from the city center it takes about 45 minutes to an hour. Alternative buses are 133, 206 and 207 which will also pass the Seacon Square bus stop.
