This has been a top priority post since I made this blog believe it or not. This will also be specifically a female Playa/Boss character because I personally headcanon Lin as a lesbian
This post also goes out to @syndicateau because wlw Lin rights
Lin had pretty low expectations of The Playa when they first met, she shared Johnnyâs opinion of the new girl. Doesnât look like much and a little bummed out she got stuck babysitting the new girl instead of working with a more experienced Saint
That being said, Lin was however relieved that the new kid was a girl. Thereâs not many in the Saints at the time and Lin was getting real sick of some of these asshole dudes and their gross comments so The Playa is a breath of fresh air, even though theyâre pretty quiet most of the time
Lin was pretty quickly impressed with The Playa. She was efficient, skilled, and followed Linâs plans, never tried to outshine her or do her own thing because she thinks her plan is better than Linâs or some crap
And even when The Playa went off the plan, it actually helped the plan instead of just derailing it and putting them back at square one
Not to mention she was also pretty cute and Lin certainly wasnât going to complain about working with someone easy on the eyes
Lin was also one of the first people in the Saints to hear The Playa talk
She made some witty comment when they were scoping out Donnieâs garage and it took Lin a moment to process it was The Playa who said something next to her
Lin tried to coax more out of the girl be joking how she didnât know she could even talk but sheâs met with more silence and a shrug
She doesnât have an explanation for replaying that dumb joke The Playa made in her head and ruining her focus after that
It wasnât even that funny, what the hell
After that, Lin tries to get The Playa to talk more in various different ways. She says itâs just to prove sheâs not crazy and that the girl definitely can talk, but in actuality she just liked their voice and wants to hear it more. And the fact that she could in theory have Actual Conversations with her and make excuses to talk to her more was a Big plus for Lin
Her âplansâ to get The Playa to talk consist of just leaving extended pauses between certain sentences when sheâs talking about her plans to leave her a chance to speak up. And also of directly asking her random questions when theyâre hanging out that arenât as simple as yes or no
The questions plan works a few times. Asking why sheâs in the Saints or trying to ask anything about her past really will usually coax a comment about how itâs ânot worth the timeâ or how itâs âin the past so what does it matter?â
The Playa also starts chiming in with more witty comments as time goes on, all of them about as funny as a piece of wet cardboard usually but Lin laughs anyways
She doesnât have an excuse for that and Johnny makes fun of her for it relentlessly because âDamn, Lin. I didnât know you had such a shitty sense of humor.â And other wise comments
Speaking of Johnny: He and Aisha both act as (albeit shitty) wingmen for Lin and The Playa because they know Damn Well whatâs going on between them even if neither Lin or The Playa will admit it
Johnny gets a rise out of The Playa by always making random comments about how âHey, you seen Lin today? Sheâs lookinâ pretty hotââ and then continues to describe Lin in literally just whatever clothes he thinks of first because he really doesnât pay attention to Lin like that ever but The Playa does
She always corrects him with an added comment about how weird it is that he was looking because sheâs kind of gullible and she doesnât catch on that heâs just messing with her
Aisha and Johnny both repeatedly try asking Lin about The Playa like âThe Playaâs kind of attractive, and you work with her a lot, you thinkinâ about making any moves?â
Lin always responds with the same eyeroll and dodging the question. âI donât really have the time, Eesh, Iâm busyâ or âYou work with her a lot too, Johnny, you sure you donât wanna try anything?â
Thatâs not a no, Lin
Lin starts taking The Playa to Freckle Bitchâs and to street races sheâs competing in when she doesnât need to be hiding or undercover from Rollerz
She says itâs just because she wants to talk business with her or that she wants The Playa there âjust in case any Rollerz show up to ruin the funâ
But we all know she just wants excuses to spend time with her and maybe show off a little
Girls totally dig street racers right?
She also starts taking the time to help The Playa learn how to race better and offers to help her fix up her cars for racing
Linâs actually pretty private about her work when sheâs working on her voxel, but she never minds The Playa hanging around when sheâs busy with the car
Itâs another chance to show off for her of course sheâs totally okay with The Playaâs presence
The Playa literally couldnât understand less about what the fuck Lin is saying when sheâs talking technical about all the guts of mechanic work but she listens intently nonetheless
If Lin cares about it then shit so does she
Not to mention Linâs kind of hot when sheâs working on the car and gets all passionate and into it
The Playa is reasonably a little touchy and jealous about Lin stringing Donnie along even for the mission
Lin actually seems to enjoy the time she spends with Donnie and starts mentioning unrelated pieces of information from their time like shitty jokes Donnie made or Donnie being a klutz
The Playa is starting to think she had Lin pegged all wrong and misunderstood all the signals because itâs starting to look like Lin is actually into Donnie and even if she had a chance before she probably missed it now
Johnny and Aisha think thatâs absolutely ridiculous because They Know Lin doesnât swing that way but they arenât about to be the assholes who out her, even though Johnny comes close one time when The Playa is trying his patience with all this âwoe is meâ crap
When Mr.Sharp has Lin in the pool hall, it takes him a painstaking anount of time to get Lin to comply and lure The Playa there
She was not about to get her stuck in this situation with her. Itâs her problem and whether sheâd ever admit it out loud or not, she doesnât want her to get hurt. Especially not because of her own mistake
Eventually she only complies because she thinks that if anyone could end this with Sharp dead and neither of them severely injured, itâs The Playa
Jokes on her, I guess, huh?
Oh Boy hereâs where it gets fun. Iâm gonna split the rest into 2 different versions. One where Lin lives and one where she dies.
Lin Dies
The Playa doesnât even think for a second that Lin needs her to get her out of the water
Linâs too fucking badass, she doesnât need help, she can handle herself
The Playa was too blindsighted by her anger at Donnie and Sharp to think twice about it. She gets out of the water and fucking bolts for the first car she can grab and races off because sheâs going to fucking kill Sharp and sheâs really going to teach Donnie a fucking lesson for betraying Linâs trust like that
Lin loved him and he just left her and The Playa to fucking drown? Oh, heâs going to fuckinâ get it
She doesnât find out until the next day that Lin drowned...she drowned because she didnât help her
She was so caught up in killing Sharp and how Donnie betrayed Lin that she didnât think for a second that she was ultimately the one who put the last nail in Linâs coffin. She is the one who betrayed Lin the worst
Johnny and Eesh do their beat to keep The Playaâs spirits up but Johnny is Johnny and isnât much comfort or help and sheâs not the most comfortable with confiding in Aisha at the time
They do take her to tag along on some of their smaller dates though and Johnny starts putting time into trying to find where Donnie ran off to because ârevenge is the best medicineâ
Donnie and The Boss really get into it in SR2 when she finds him throwing the flowers into Linâs watery grave
Donnieâs really fucking confused at first when sheâs yelling at him for betraying Linâs trust and love like he did. He manages to get in a few words that makes The Boss pause for a moment because Donnie definitely just established that he thought Lin and her were together
âYou what? What the fuck made you think that?â
âI-I donât know! She really liked you a-and I just kind of assumedââ
The Boss originally was just interested in revenge but now sheâs going to get Donnie to rig some Brotherhood trucks so she isnât just wasting time while she interrogates him about Lin
Whomp whomp whomp, turns out he and Lin talked about cars, her, and Joseph and there was never anything romantic there
âI canât believe you thought me and Linâ We were both gay, what the hell, man. I thought you knew about her.â
The Boss also decides then and there that sheâs not done with Donnie yet though, she wants him to hurt like she hurt for so long
Lin Lives
When Lin wakes up in a fucking ambulance sheâs really fucking confused because she should be dead
She used what breath she had left to get The Playa out, what the fuck is she doing alive and on her way to the hospital?
Lin absolutely cannot believe for a second that The Playa wasted precious time to save her. She didnât think they cared about others that much, let alone her
She hates being cooped up in the hospital and hates Juliusâ babysitters waiting with her while the Rollerz are still around, but honestly she doesnât mind when The Playa shows up between missions to tell her in detail how she killed Sharp and later Joseph
And after the Rollerz are out, while The Playa still doesnât have a ton of free time, she still visits as much as she can just to talk
She talks a lot now
Jokes about how much money sheâs being forced to dosh out on mechanics while Lin is out of commision
Talks about that one time Mr.Wong hired her to kill a hot dog mascot and about how she fucked up bad enough that it took her $500 at Forgive & Forget to get the cops off of her ass
Tells Lin about how Johnny is ever the classy guy and got his knee blown out with a shotgun from Big Tony because he couldnât help from making a sex joke about Tanya and how Dex and Troy are constantly at each othersâ throats with The Carnales
Itâs like the new girl just doesnât shut up ever now
And funny enough, Lin finds that she really doesnât mind. She really likes talking to this girl
Oh no, Johnny was right
Lin thinks for a while about date ideas she can ask The Playa on after she gets discharged but they all sound annoying, lame, and way too cushy for her tastes
Ultimately she invites The Playa to her place because âFuck it, after all the shit weâve done I donât care. I almost died and Iâm not about to miss my chance again because I canât think of something like a date idea.â
The Playa is very confused at all the increasingly obvious passes Lin is making towards her when theyâre at her crib because theyâre still pretty sure she was into Donnie and not her
Lin has the patience of a rock and gets frustrated and gives up within the first hour or two, âHow are you this stupid?! How am I still attracted to you?! Iâm trying to get into your fucking pants, do you wanna fuck or not?â
In SR2, it turns out Lin had the same idea as The Boss and they ran into each other at the courthouse both trying to break Johnny out.
They work as well together as they always have, itâs like almost no time has passed at all
âYou get Johnny, babe. Iâll meet you two outside. Same old voxel but itâs purple because fuck the Rollerz.â
âMeet us up front, no point in going the long way if they already know weâre here.â

Because Lin is my very favorite character from the games and I think itâs incredibly ridiculous how she died, Iâve decided to spend my free time working Lin into the other games in the Saints Row series...because thatâs what being productive is like for me
Itâll be split into 4 parts, one for each game (duh), with the first game being the smallest since sheâs already in that one and thereâs very little else to be altered for this and the third will likely be the largest. Because the first game is the shortest, Iâm putting the readmore between that one and the 2nd game
Saints Row:
Obviously Lin survives, this entire posts hinges on her survival in âLiberationâ
The Playa pulls her out of the water with them and calls an ambulance once on shore.
The Playa probably also tried to give Lin CPR themself until the ambulance arrives, they then continue on with the mission âNo Time to Mournâ where they hunt down and kill William Sharp for revenge
Theyâre unsure if Lin survives until a few days later when Julius tells them he finally heard word that sheâs alive in the hospital still treating other injuries they found and currently in an induced coma they put her in that ultimately only lasts for a few days, a week at the most
Thereâs an additional mission between the events of âLiberationâ & âNo Time to Mournâ and the final Westside Rollerz mission, âSemi-Charmed Lifeâ
Itâs a similar mission as âVisiting Hoursâ in Saints Row 2 where you escort an injured Johnny out of the hospital while being attacked by Ronin
Julius has a few Saints stationed at the hospital to make sure no Rollerz show up to finish the job and kill Lin themselves for the deceased Sharp and angry Price
Lin wakes up when The Playaâs shift is active, and decides herself that sheâs spent enough time hospitalized and takes The Playa with her so they can leave
Itâs a âstealthâ mission (term used incredibly loosely) where youâre taking out and avoiding security/cops and then driving to the church to see Julius
Queue Lin being incredibly angry that she didnât get to personally take William Sharp out but also surprised and thoroughly impressed with The Playa for doing it, especially so soon after they were dumped into the waterways
This also means she gets to pop her head into other mission arcs and crap, mostly just to give Dex or Johnny a hard time but sheâs there and gets a little more depth to her character as a result
Instead of the scene of Donnie looking at a picture of Lin during âBattlefield Promotion,â itâs a scene of Lin showing up at his garage and surprising him because you can tear their relationship (platonic or romantic) out of my cold dead hands
Saints Row 2:
The Boss asks Johnny about her when Johnnyâs talking about where everyone is but he admits that heâs not entirely sure because she didnât really keep up with him while he was in prison, not on her end at least
With an added âI mean itâs not like she never showed up but I think it was mostly just to make sure I wasnât dead yet. Sheâs tough but I donât think she could handle anymore of us going out after what happened with you and that damn boat and then everyone else scattering to the wind and backstabbing us.â
Johnny also mentions that last he heard of what she was actually up to, was that she was still hanging around with Donnie and street racing, but otherwise heâs as much in the dark as The Boss is at the moment
Lin ends up seeking out The Boss herself, rather than waiting around for them to find her
She shows up during the cutscene after âDown Paymentâ when Johnny is complaining that they need to start recruiting again
Johnny makes a wisecrack at her timing of course âOh, look who decided to finally show up, youâre just in time to clean up since you missed all the festivitiesâ
And of course she shoots back, âShut the fuck up, Gat. I got here as fast as I could, itâs not like you two assholes sent me an invite. I had to stop by Aishaâs and ask where you were.â
Sheâs wearing a unique version of one of those leather vests members of The Brotherhood wear thatâs all red and has her name patched on, she probably also has a unique patch on the back since sheâs not actually a Brotherhood member, she wouldnât have any of their affiliation patches aside from the colors of the vest
Johnny immediately calls her out for flying their flags, he uses it as a moment to give The Boss a rundown of who the Brotherhood is, âTheyâre these tatted up, leather wearing freaks that drive around in big loud trucks. If you ask me, I think theyâre compensating for somethinââ
Lin just rolls her eyes âIâm not in The Brotherhood, Johnny. Donnie is.â
âOh, so that makes it better? Youâre not affiliated with those assholes, just your boyfriend.â
âHeâs not my boyfriend! And what was I supposed to do? Youâre dumbass got yourself put on deathrow when you botched the plan to take out Troy,â Lin points to The Boss, âAnd youâre dumbass got fucking laid out in a fucking boat explosion! I couldnât exactly run the Saints on my own when half our crew got busted and the other half dropped their flags as soon as everyone else ditched us.â
She then offers to help them with The Brotherhood, which starts another argument with Johnny and ends with Lin revealing that aside from Donnie, none of the other Brotherhood members should know that she was a former lieutenant in the Saints
Which Johnny also has something to say about how Donnie struggles to keep his mouth shut, and Lin responds with that heâs gotten better with that and that heâs got more incentive to keep her secret since heâs too worried about her getting hurt or killed for something like that after what happened with the Rollerz
Lin works with Carlos a lot since sheâs a source of inside information for the Brotherhood
They end up having an older sister-younger brother relationship because she offers to show him the ropes while The Boss is busy with all the miscellaneous other missions and activities
She also gets upset at The Boss for threatening Donnie and almost getting him killed by Maero, and later again for roughing him up trying to find Carlos
When sheâs chewing them out for when they fought Donnie to find Carlos, The Boss mentions what happened and why
Itâs a really somber scene
âHe could have died, Boss! Heâs already on thin ice for the stunt you pulled with the cars, heâll be lucky if The Brotherhood doesnât kill him themselves now! I told you to keep him out of it this time!â
âCarlos is dead, Lin. Jessica chained him up to the back of some truck and drove around the fucking docks, dragging him behind it.â
âHeâs what?â
âI had to fucking put a bullet in his head, Lin. Heâs fucking dead! I really couldnât give a single fuck if Donnieâs okay because heâs part of the reason one of our own people are dead now.â
Later thereâs a cutscene where sheâs hanging out with Donnie at her place and she brings up the Saints and admits to him that sheâs working with them again and tells him about Carlos
Donnie apologizes about what happened with Carlos
Maero ends up busting in with some other members, revealing that they know Lin is a Saint and believing that Donnie has also actively been working with them and that the crap about being threatened and roughed up was just a cover.
Lin groans because âNot this fucking shit againâ and pulls Donnie with her into cover behind the counter and pulls out a gun she had stashed in one of the kitchen drawers
She gives Donnie a kitchen knife and pulls out her phone between shooting at The Brotherhood members to call The Boss
She gives Donnie her phone as she covers him so they can run out the back door and get in her car and drive off, so Donnie has to relay her messages to The Boss, Pierce, and Shaundi back at the hideout
Ultimately they make it to Donnieâs garage and The Boss and Pierce meet them there with Shaundi staying back at the hideout âin case brotherhood try raiding there while theyâre goneâ
When they show up to the garage, they find out that Lin got shot in the side and you have to protect Lin from a few waves of Brotherhood with Pierce while Donnie tries to patch Lin upÂ
Afterwards, Lin and Donnie spend their time hanging out at the hideout now
Because Donnieâs sticking it out at the hideout currently, much to Johnny and The Bossâ dismay at first, to keep him safe from the Brotherhood, thereâs a few comedic moments when The Boss and the others are trying to plan their next moves and look to Donnie hoping he might have some helpful information by some miracle
Spoiler he never does, he just gets Real Frightened because heâs so use to them just beating information out of him
Lin ends up being The Bossâ ride off of the weapons shipment in âThe Enemy of My Enemyâ
Queue a comedic conversation about how The Boss is shocked she can not only drive cars damn good but can apparently drive boats too
Lin remarks with how she canât be âthe best racer to ever come out of Chinatownâ if sheâs only good at racing cars, implying sheâs also skilled flying as well as watercrafts simply because she wanted to be the best racer across all fronts
During the end of the epilogue mission arc, after the fight with Dane Vogel, sheâs on the bridge with Johnny fighting off the cops on the bridge
Saints Row the Third:
Lin isnât part of the crew staging the bank robbery at the beginning of the game, in fact, for the most part, she stays behind on a lot of stunts like that and is kind of like the 2nd in command after Johnny with the Saints
Because while Johnny is always busy being the face of the Saints now and going out to wreak havoc and rob banks and shit with The Boss, someone has to stay behind and run things at Stilwater
Lin is the one running things in Stilwater because sheâs not interested in all the fame and publicity the Saints are otherwise working with now, and prefers to stick to their roots and do a lot of the nitty gritty work that the others donât have the time for anymore while theyâre busy filming or doing various other things to keep up their image
She shows up with Pierce at the end of âWeâre Going to Need Gunsâ
Sheâs actually the one driving the helicopter and Pierce is hanging out the side with an annihilator rpg
After The Luchadores raid Johnnyâs funeral, she offers to try and join one of the crews as a means to get inside information because âItâs what I always do, I go undercover, I help you ruin their sorry lives, they find out, I get hurt, and then I get to sit back and relax while you deal with the rest of their crap.â
The Boss elaborates that he doesnât think her plan would work any because 1. These arenât street gangs like the Rollerz or the Brotherhood, she wouldnât blend in as well and 2. Sheâs a Saint, thereâs no way sheâd be able to go under the radar let alone work as a double agent for them
Lin probably has a comment like âGod, we really did ruin our reputation if weâre fighting corporate assholes like Dane on the regular now.â
You can also pry wlw Lin from my cold dead hands so:
She absolutely makes passes at Kinzie and later on Viola in their idle banter when you have them both as homies
Kinzie responds back with a comment that implies she would be interested but also referencing one of her,,,very many kinks like she does
Lin is taken aback by her forwardness but takes it as a challenge
And Lin never turns down a challenge
Viola is a lot less into Linâs flirting, wanting to keep their relationship strictly professional and generally not approving of Linâs headstrong and sarcastic personality and her general distaste for all the popularity and âcorporate bullshitâ the Saints are involved in now
Lin then does of course let up on the flirting since Violaâs made it clear she wasnât interested
Viola then has a comment about how Lin stopped
Itâs a very tsundere type banter of Lin being cocky and Viola adamantly denying caring about it at all, just that she didnât expect Lin to give up so easily
Thereâs also a banter with both Shaundi and Lin as homies that reveals that they had a brief stint where they were sort-of-dating and that Lin had also appeared on Shaundiâs show at one point
They make a few comments that leave why they stopped seeing each other pretty vague and open-ended
Shaundi says something about how it was fun and she enjoyed it a lot and she doesnât really understand why they ever stopped
Lin follows up with some vague reply about how Shaundi was just too busy with the show and all the fame stuff and she was too busy running the gang in Stilwater so they just stopped eventually
She responds pretty hostile to The Boss letting Matt go at first because she doesnât trust him not to come back for their skins
She does relent pretty quickly though when someone mentions that Mattâs only 16
During Threeway, she attempts to go do whatever The Boss doesnât choose
So if The Boss goes to save Shaundi, Viola, and Burt; Lin takes Angel and attempts to stop Killbane from escaping, ultimately failing to do so though
And if The Boss goes to kill Killbane, Lin tries to go save Shaundi, Viola, and Burt, but doesnât make it in time
Sheâs really fucking pissed at The Boss in this ending
During the cutscene introducing the Daedalus when the Saints are throwing a party, sheâs just in the background with a drink in her hand, she refuses to toast with the others
Saints Row IV:
Personally, I think this would work best if she replaced Gatâs recruitment in the story, but Iâm gonna write that part sorta vaguely so it works with or without Gat
Just like in SRTT, Lin for the most part is uninvolved with the Big Plans that the boss is getting up to, instead still hanging around Stilwater and running the gang operations there while The Boss and the rest of the crew works at everything else
She is however for the most part, having worked past her grudge against the Saints moving up in the world and has settled that itâs possible to have the best of both worlds in this case with The Boss doing all the Big publicity and movie shit and herself handling all the gangâs Actual gang business
During Zinyakâs invasion, she calls The Boss to ask him what the fuck is going on and stuff
The call cuts out when sheâs mid-sentence and later on itâs assumed she died when Zinyak blew up Earth
Eventually, Kinzie finds her pod on the Zinâs ship along with Donnieâs
This prompts The Boss to go and save both of them from their respective nightmares
Linâs nightmare is all about William Sharp kidnapping her and torturing her and ultimately attempting to kill her in the waterways
Donnieâs is reliving the SR2 Brotherhood mission when Maero attacked him and Lin and Lin got shot during the firefight and they werenât sure if The Boss was gonna make it in time and she might die
Linâs loyalty mission is driving around and fighting off enemies while she steals car parts to build herself a racing car in the simulation for the fun of it and for old timeâs sake
I have a few ideas for a super outfit but I figured since a lot of the super outfits reference other characters and games and stuff, Iâd make herâs a reference to a character known for racing?
I figured Speed Racer would be a pretty neat reference to use? Idk I almost suggested Penelope Pitstop so I think this is a much better option
The blue of the shirt and the yellow gloves are replaced with purple versions of them and the red neckerchief and socks are replaced with yellow. And fuck helmet safety because that part of the outfit is just omitted here
