@squirrelhacks asked:
“Shiki?” Their voice was less confident than it normally was, nervousness slipping through the cracks as they looked up at their friend, face a bit tear stained, though the red marks were beginning to fade. They’d calmed down a bit by now, albeit not as much as they would have liked to. Rhyme of all people knew how important it was to talk about their feelings with people, but...
They shuffled in place a bit, not saying anything else until suddenly, they held Shiki out their open hand. In the middle of their palm was their cherished necklace, completely detached from the string that normally held it around their neck.
“Could you help me fix this?” Their voice came out somewhat hushed, as if they didn’t want anyone else to hear the question, and truth be told, they didn’t. They especially didn’t want it to get back to Beat that they had accidentally broken the necklace he had worked so hard to get them.
Right away, Shiki can tell something’s wrong, if only by the timid, unsure tone in her friend’s little voice. Her expression warps with concern as Rhyme appears reluctant to divulged what had them concerned, and she reflexively puts a hand on their shoulder.
Her gaze falls to the bell pendant in their hand—which looked as it typically had, albeit the thin rope it was usually attached to had frayed apart. She realizes the predicament after a moment—and truthfully, she felt relieved; Rhyme always seemed comparatively level-headed to her manic, over-dramatic self, but at times like this, Shiki was also reminded that they were still young in a lot of ways—younger than herself, even.
“Oh, don’t worry, Rhyme. Of course I can help you fix it.” She’s actually kind of flattered they came to her for this, and she’s lends them a comforting smile as she takes the bell to examine it. “Hey, maybe it would be better to start wearing it on a chain, instead of string? It’ll be a little sturdier that way.” Their brother would probably appreciate the style, too.

{Idea: Rhyme is having a bad day (for whatever reason you choose) and Aku notices gathering noise!}
It wasn't the first time Aku had ever found herself in this position, and it likely wouldn't be the last, but that didn't mean that it ever got easier.
She called it her "intuition", but she kind of wish she didn't even have it. She just noticed, at some point, that when the little monsters in her imagination started crowding around someone, that usually meant that person was in a bad mood or having a really bad day. If she didn't do something about it, that person's whole aura might even change. They might say or do something terrible. But if she was fast, sometimes she could help.
But she hated it.
Tentatively, Aku approached the newest victim she'd spotted, mentally swatting the beasts away as she neared and tried to lean into the girl's line of vision.
"Excuse me... Sorry to bother you, but... Um, is--is everything okay?"

“Ah...”
Emi blinks in surprise, pausing after setting a glass into the sink before turning around after feeling two arms squeeze around her stomach from behind.
Their face was hidden against her back, but there was no mistaking the strands of blond hair sticking out from their hat. Rhyme was shaking a little, but Emi only smiled before moving to face them. Their arms loosened enough to allow movement and Emi gently returned their hug. One hand resting on their back while the other gently rubbed against their shoulder blade, “It’s okay...There, there,” Emi whispered as she could hear a sniffle, “It’s okay Rhyme...I’m not angry. It’s okay...”
@squirrelhacks asked: "shiki!" the younger rode over to her with a brief wave, scooter coming to an abrupt stop as they rustled around in their hoodie pocket, retrieving an old and worn copy of pokemon emerald and handing it to their friend with a proud smile on their face. "i hacked that shiny meowth you wanted! i named it after neku because his nature is bashful." a hand rose to their mouth to stifle a small giggle as they teased their mutual friend behind his back.
Rhyme was literally, like, the coolest friend she had, the only thing they needed was a pair of light up heelys and look would be complete. Hearing her name called, Shiki waves her long, flappy sleeve in their direction.
Her face lights up in excitement as they’d gone the extra mile to make Shiki happy—not that it was at all surprising. “Oh, Rhyme, you’re just the sweetest! Thank you so much!” She wraps her arms around the friend who was actually… taller than her at this point. God, that was weird. “You know Meowth,” pronounced Meow-ith, “is one of my faves! I can’t wait to show Neku.” She takes the little cartridge, holding it up to exemplify the giddy smile on her face. “He’ll probably be embarrassed.” But it’s better than the Jigglypuff she named after Beat.

*plays the sad trombone sound for him from an app on their phone*
“Rhyme please this is serious. What else did I miss?”
” i still love sharks! “
Well. That one was unexpected. Maybe it was a weird coping mechanism. The Noise sharks were far from cute.
"Just don't tell Beat that, 'kay? And don't go after sharks when you go to the beach. Please." Part of Neku was half kidding but there was still a very serious tone to their voice.
*slides business card discreetly across the table*
