#squirrel problems

I’ve battled with squirrels a bit but normally they would go after my sunflowers just before I was ready to harvest them or sometimes they use to dig up my spider plants and eat their roots. I find that with garden pests you generally have three options: cover, distract, or dissuade.

My garden back when I lived with my family had an orange tree off to the side and because of that the squirrels didn’t bother my plants unless there was something exceedingly tempting to them (sunflower). They would leave half eaten oranges everywhere, but at least I didn’t lose many things to them. That would be a “distract” method. You might accomplish this potentially by giving them food in the furthest area of your garden from your plants, but this method miiiight backfire.

I don’t know of many dissuasion methods for squirrels as they tend to be a bit relentless and I don’t know of any plants they dislike. If you want to try dissuading them though, do some digging into scents they hate or fear and see what you could do there.

Why? 

There’s a squirrel in the bathroom. Specifically the toilet.

I’m not kidding. And I’m lucky because my fiancee was there. He helped my dad extract the squirrel and return it to the “wild” of my neighborhood.

Random post.  But seriously.

Why squirrels?!  

First they dig a hole through my ceiling.

Then they squawk for an hour outside my window.

Then they decide they love hanging out on top of my AC unit.

Sneaky buggers like darting across the street just as I'm driving down the road too.
