I think the reason why there’s rarely any Mario sprite series I can get into is because most of the time, it’s usually a ripoff of some other popular sprite series. This may make me a hypocrite considering that I hate it when Pokemon fans call Yo Kai Watch a ripoff, but if it’s really evident as hell that something is ripping off something with little to no differences whatsoever, then that’s when something earns the title of ripoff.

Usually, the average Mario sprite series consists of SMBZ ripoffs, where the concept is Metal Sonic being the main villain and Mario and Sonic team up to get the Chaos Emeralds to stop Metal Sonic, and Bowser is usually the side villain in these sprite animations. And that’s not the last sprite series being ripped off. Maybe it’s my faulty memory, but the other alternative is a ripoff of Super Mario Bros GT. As in, the concept being the first two episodes taking place in a tournament and Bowser’s Castle and the concept of the 2nd episode is Mario battling Oni Bowser, Bowser summons Petey Piranha through a card, Wario and Waluigi competing against Mario and Luigi in the tournament, you get the idea.

Like, why bother making a sprite series if the concept is the same as another famous sprite series? Not saying they should stop making sprite animations, but be original about it. Look at Bowser’s Koopalings or Super Mario Bros Heroes Of The Stars for example.
