Barry sat against the rocks of the riverbank, gazing out over the sunset in front of him. According to the Pokemon Planet special, Munchlax only appeared from the forest to lick trees covered in honey. It was...weird, but after a long google search of successful captures, he believed the stories.
The bad part about that was it took up to twenty four hours for one Pokemon to appear, and the chances of a Munchlax smelling the tree was slim to none.
He did whatever he could to increase his chances. Cooking a bunch of poffins by the edge of the forest, preparing a big dinner for himself and his team, anything to make the area smell irresistible.
Now, it was just a waiting game. He trusted his Pokemon to keep guard throughout the night for him. This wasn’t their first rare Pokemon hunting rodeo, but like the last ones, the team doubted it would be successful. Oh well, they got a real good meal out of it.
Barry’s eyes were already starting to close, no matter how hard he tried to focus on the bobber dancing in the water. If they were going to be stuck there, he might as well do the most stationary activity he could think of: fishing.
Nothing bit in the last hour, and he was starting to think both hunts were futile.
Suddenly, his Floatzel cried out, pointing at rustling in the treeline. A Pokemon coming for the honey?! Sweet! The boy anchored his rod into the pile of rocks, pushing himself up to investigate.
He called over his Roserade, ready to grass whistle the Pokemon to sleep, when another cry from another Pokemon scared him. It was his Staraptor, suddenly taking flight and moving in the direction of the rocks.
Where his fishing rod wasn’t anymore.
The bird saw the pole move a tad, but thought nothing of it until it was flying out of it’s place. Abandoning his quest for a Munchlax for the moment, Barry ran back after it, only to get a glimpse of it going down the river.
Without thinking, he jumped in after it, much to his team’s horror. The entire crew was now chasing Barry, who was chasing his fishing pole, which was getting pulled by nothing more than a piece of driftwood.
All the while an Aipom enjoyed his honey snack.
He never did catch the fishing rod.
