Nearing hour nine with a handful more to go, the itch of exhaustion was starting to wear on her. Rummaging through the contents of her scrub pockets with one hand while expertly guiding her rolling cart with the other, Jamie’s mind switched to autopilot long enough to be startled back out of it by the sound of her pager. And just like that, her white, sensible sneakers took a 180 towards the elevators and back down to urgent care.

carter glared down at her phone that never seemed to pinpoint her location exactly. she found that she was pointing in the opposite direction of the town’s library but as she began to walk in the new direction, the map app told her to turn the other way. so she did so, not realizing just how foolish she must’ve looked, walking around in circles on the same sidewalk she’d been stuck on for the past five minutes. carter let out a strained exhale as she rolled her eyes, her head lolling back. “come on,” she quietly pleaded. “something just work out. i’m begging you,” she pulled her head up to find a person right in front of her, making her jump, silently cursing herself for just talking to herself in front of them. “oh god,” she let out a nervous chuckle. “sorry,” she immediately apologized.

It’s the first time in a while that she’s let herself be this calm, relaxed, hell this tipsy. It was probably before Dalton left, put she enjoyed it, pants were rolled up so that her legs could be submerged in the water for a bit. Taking a sip of Wes’ jungle juice she looks up at the person standing behind her. “Yeah?”

naomi walked outside and leaned against the wall, slipping her lighter and a half-empty pack of cigarettes out of her jacket pocket. she stuck one between her lips and cupped her hand around it, lighting it quickly. she took a drag, folding one arm across her chest, cigarette perched between her fingers. she had tried to quit at least five times, but nothing had ever worked. maybe someday, she thought with an almost cynical chuckle. then, she heard footsteps and glanced over, realizing there was someone else there, “what? you want one too?”
