how do you think the wiarding community interacts with the rest of the world? we know the triwizard tournament is a thing, but. are there exchange students, foreign diplomats, things like that?? I think about that a lot and it kind of weirds me out that the magical wizard community seems to live in a bubble except for sports and putting children in danger?? if voldemort was such a threat why no other countries offered political asylum to muggleborns or sent agents to see how things were going.
im gonna be real straight w/ u and say it's because jkr was writing a childrens book and either did not think to acknowledge this or purposefully left out this aspect of war because involving wizards from foreign countries in a larger capacity than "lets say weird shit about the magic carpet trade" or "grindelwald is imprisoned in bulgaria or some shit" would be ~~~too compligated~~~
but in my headcanon, the wizarding community doesn't so much INTERACT with the rest of the world as it is part of the rest of the world. the uk is far behind in terms of wizard and muggle integration—in the USA there are a few private wizarding schools but mostly it's like. wizard kids still have to go to muggle school, but there are wizarding schools they go to in the afternoons and on weekends. their parents teach them spells at dinner. there's less restriction for underage magic and more restriction for types of magic used overall. malicious magic has serious punitive consequences but say you're accio-ing your brothers dinner plate over and over, no one gives a shit.
anyway i think it's even more integrated and even more open in canada and in south america. depending on the location, muggle neighbors will even know about their magical friends. in a lot of european countries it's the same bs as the UK has but the more rural you get the less strict it is. i don't feel like i have enough knowledge about the rest of the world to conceptualize what magic populations would be like there, except for in japan maybe?? where it is probably a lot like the USA in that there are magic schools that students can attend, but there are probably a lot more of them and while some are disguised as cram schools, there are some just. private junior- and high schools for magic.
AS FOR DIPLOMATS etc i think definitely but. it's probably as part of muggle embassies. exchange students arent extremely common but there are still a lot of young magic people who travel and, in the era after the potter war, are protected by legislation and also bound by the magical restrictions of whatever country they are in.
