And today's #MiLBHatclub @hatclub contest cap is my hometown team. 1983-2000 Las Vegas Stars , 2001-Present and 2008-Present Las Vegas 51's ✖ @neweracap Started as the second incarnation of the Portland Beavers baseball club (1919-1972) the team moved to Spokane, Washington in 1973 to become the Spokane Indians until 1982, the team moved to Las Vegas in 1983 becoming the Las Vegas Stars, the stars became the first professional sports team to play in Las Vegas since the Las Vegas Wranglers baseball club who played from 1947-1952 and 1957-58. The Stars was the San Diego Padres affiliate from 1983-2000 and won 2 Pacific Coast League Titles (1986, 1988). In 2001 after 18 years as the Padres top affiliate the two teams parted ways and the stars then became an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the stars decided to rebrand their entire organization renaming the team the 51's as a reference to Area 51, a military base located in Rachel, NV about 80 miles north-northwest of Las Vegas legendary for rumors of its housing UFOs and E.T .s the team adopted a logo featuring a grey alien head and introduced a mascot named Cosmo. In 2009 the 51's changed affiliation to the Toronto Bluejays and lasted until 2012 and 2013 became the Mets Triple-A affiliate same year the team was sold to Summerlin Las Vegas Baseball Club LLC, a joint venture with Howard Hughes Corp.
