for    a    beat,    prescott    froze,    hands    raised    in    surprise    from    the    jolt.    it    took    a    second    to    piece    together    where    he    had    gone    wrong.    “    i    do    care    about    you,    ”    he   said,    before    taking    two    steps    to    reclose    the    distance    she    created.    “    just    not    –    .    .    ”    like    that.    it    was    hard    to    get    that    last    bit    out    when    a    part    of    him    knew    they    weren’t    true.    if    he    didn’t    care    about    her    like    that,    he    never    would    have    crossed    the    line    to    begin    with. not when her boyfriend was him best friend.    but    that    admission    would    only    make    things    messier.    he    just    needed    to    touch    her.    kiss    her.    maybe    then    he    could    work    her    out    of    his    system.    “    what    do    you    want    me    to    say    ?    cause    i    don’t    really    think    you    want    me    to    say    that.    i’m    telling    you    i    want    you,    and    i’m    tired    of    pretending    i    don’t,    but    it    can’t    be    …    like    that.    ”    they    both    know    it. / @spoileds
