Here's a line that came about based on the idea of a split evolution “Pokémon that evolves into one thing at one level but evolves into something else (presumably stronger) at a later level if you hold off” I found here.
The idea struck me as something that would fit a tortoise and hare line pretty well, but it took me a while to make the designs (and I'm still kinda iffy on the designs for Acehop and Torsop, although I'm pretty happy with how Harace turned out).
If Acehop sprints to evolution (evolving somewhere between 18 where evolution first becomes available to it and 40) it becomes Harace, which is fast, but fairly frail. If it plods along “slow and steady” until level 41 or later before evolving it becomes Torsop, which is a sturdy tank.
Acehop's name obviously comes from Aesop and hop (as it's a rabbit-turtle that gets around by hopping) and it is a Basic (Normal) type. Harace comes from hare, ace (Aesop), and race and Torsop is from tortoise and Aesop.
