So apparently "those tables haven't been cleaned yet" is actually code for "no it's ok ill clean them, do this other annoying task and serve all the customers while you stand there playing on your phone after your hard day of doing jack shit when I'm just on my second half of a split shift", well according to the 19 year old boy I work with anyway, because that's sure how he interpreted.

Split shifts and trials
I started work at a local restaurant, and worked three hours as a 'trial shift' but nobody told me about pay rates. Then I went back to work today for 4 hours during the day, then they asked me to work another three hours in the evening - a 'split shift'. Do I have to work a split shift and can I get paid for my trial as well?
You should’ve been paid for the all the shifts you worked, even though you weren’t yet accepted as an employee. With regard to an allowance for working a split shift you will need to check your award. Try calling the Unions Australia helpline on 1300 486 466 if you're not sure which award you are under.
work time with the lovely kiddies :)
*Sigh* have to go back to work :(!
