That's also a tough one, LOL. Well not really. I had BETTER say my top "most excited to write" WIP is No More Secrets, eh @hnn-wnchstr ? LOL

I'm working on that story for her! It started as a request-fic/birthday-fic that I realized would actually work perfectly in the Secret Santa universe, and so I started it as part four of that once-trilogy. It was originally supposed to be a long one-shot or maybe two (or possibly three) chapters, and now I'm hoping it'll cap at five chapters, LOL. This is the WIP I am currently working on! It will be the next story I post on AO3! It gives us a larger look at how humans interact with youkai in this world, and I go into more details regarding how I've recreated the inu-youkai race to be inherently protectors of humans. I also make use of the evolution of there being 'soulmates' in this universe, which wasn't originally intended back when I wrote the first fic but I already leaned that way in and towards the third story, where Inu/Kag had decided they were soulmates. Since I already went that way I just decided to go for it and so soulmates are totally a thing now, just very rare. There is a decent amount of Inu/Kag in the story because of course, they are my OTP, and specifically we get Inu/Kag being bad asses because there's a wee bit of a youkai problem they both have to help out with, but there is also a lot of Rin and this story features a Sess/Rin pairing. It's an AU and she's a grown ass woman! LOL

The next fic I think I'm most excited to finish is Freak Show, which once upon a time had been my active WIP and so it's pretty far along and close to finished. The reason I called it a 'semi-modern' AU is 'cause it takes place in like sort of the 1930s, but not the real 1930s in either Japan or America. It's also a fake Americanized Japanese-esque sort of mixed world, but it's 1930s technologically, and so old school traveling freak shows are totally a thing. Also too, Kagome is a reiki user, but in this world, reiki users are a secret society of very rare humans. The ones who know youkai not only were real, but are still real, while most humans think youkai (and reiki users) are just myths. So how's a hanyou supposed to earn a living in a world where most humans think youkai aren't real? Come one! Come all! Meet Dog Boy! A man who is half human, half canine beast!

Man, I am torn on picking only one third one, LOL. I'll tell you about a few more, but I'll try to be less wordy, since apparently I can't put a 'cut' in Ask answers.

Heat of the Moment is a canon divergence that opens like a moonless night blanket fic (Inu/Kag alone and huddling in an abandoned hut to survive a blizzard and then whoops they had sex) but then instead of ending shortly after a morning after love confession, the intention is that it will be a long fic and one of my more epic adventures when everything's said and done.

Her Father had a Daughter is another major epic canon divergence that, spoiler alert, includes an OC who is INUYASHA'S DAUGHTER! *gasp*. All will be explained, but the long short of it is she predates Kikyou, her mother was an inu-youkai so she's 3/4 inu, and I arbitrarily decided slow youkai aging means she still appears to be around age 12-ish (if memory serves). Don't worry, Mom's not in the picture and it's an Inu/Kag fic through and through.

I think last I'm gonna just pick A mid-spring moonless night's dream which as stated is the first upcoming sequel for my post-canon After The End universe. It's just a fluffy/lemony new moon one-shot, takes place during the first new moon after Inu/Kag moved into their own hut together as husband and wife, but I'm excited to get it finished and posted because I have SO MANY IDEAS FOR THAT UNIVERSE OMG. I just wanna get the ball rolling already.

In fact, after I finish and post No More Secrets, finishing my reread/editing of ATE New Beginnings and getting it posted on AO3 is my next project before I get back to any other WIP.

Okay! Finally had a minute to sit down and work on answering this! Thanks for the ask @neutronstarchild !! (here's hoping the tag works after I push post, since half the time it doesn't)

I have also just recently received a second one of this ask from an anon, so I hope you see this too nonny!!! And thanks for thinking of me!

Now then, my favorite five fics. Considering I have written 108 fanfics that's no small ask, LOL. But I definitely do have some favorites.

I think the #1 spot has to go to Mating Season because I mean come on. What was just supposed to be a fun five-chapter hentai turned into a 100-chapter epic that took me around two years to write at a pace of posting one chapter a week. Yeah, that fucker ate my life for two years, but it was worth it. I am never, ever, writing a fic live ever again, LOL, so that one will go down in history as the one and only time I was foolish enough to get carried away with the vibes. Pantsing at its finest.

Can I cheat? I'm going to cheat and for the #2 spot I'm actually going to pick all of my Hallow trilogy, because how can I only pick the first story in what expanded into such a wonderful universe? But All Hallows' Eve was the first Halloween fic I ever wrote, and that universe will always have a soft spot in my heart. It has it all. Halloween parties and haunted houses, Inu/Kag love confessions and smexy times, canon divergence 'second jewel shard hunt after Naraku is dead' which was a popular thing to write at the time, youkai in the modern era and Kagome's school friends seeing her be a badass, and pregnancy and a baby! It's a great universe.

In that same vein, I really should pick the entire Secret Santa universe but I'll be good and for #3 I'll just say the original Secret Santa fic instead. I love the whole universe of course (also psssst I'm writing a fourth installment!!!) but the first one is definitely extra special because it contains that whole misunderstanding trope, coworkers where she likes him but he thinks she hates him and much unnecessary heartache ensues. Also, I absolutely love the type of universe where youkai are still around and are basically still youkai just like in canon, and I go back and forth on whether or not hanyou have human rights in this sort of world but I'd like to believe they would, and so in this universe they do and Inuyasha can live in peace among humans. I also love that I made Kagome a pretty fucking powerful miko, with an empathic ability I've not given her in other fics. In Love is Blind she can sense emotions but in the Secret Santa universe she can straight up read a person's soul.

It's really hard to pick just one fic amongst all my canon divergence and canon compliant inserted-scene fics to choose the #4 favorite but I think that honor has got to go to An unexpected request. Canon compliant, it tucks in neatly between manga chapters 519 and 520. This one has always been a little extra special to me. The summary says it all: Faced with the realization of just how dangerous, how potentially deadly their situation is about to become, Kagome approaches Inuyasha with an unexpected request. Will he comply? Maybe once he gets over his shock. After all, who wants to die a virgin?

"AU untitled almost canon" is my take on a canon retelling AU, where a different version of Kagome goes down the well and starts the adventure all over again. In this version she's very similar to Canon Kagome except she doesn't have that blockade in her memory that made her forget about the Shikon whenever her grandfather talked about it, and also too, her family shrine has the entire legend (including the Inu/Kag part of the legend, but with names lost and no mention of time travel) on ancient scrolls, and so Kagome grew up fully knowing the whole story and she always felt a strange pull towards the Goshinboku and the hanyou of the legend. When Kagome finds out she's the miko from the legend it's like an amazing dream come true. Very fluff and Inu/Kag lemony (with wildly different views regarding the whole Kikyou's reincarnation part) and Butterfly Effect will make it differ more and more from canon as it progresses.

"Curse Inu Girl" is what it sounds like, in that somebody curses Inuyasha and he is turned into a girl, to 'teach him a lesson' about being respectful towards women. (He's not OOC misogynistic and the bitch who cursed him is in the wrong.) Originally a request-fic. There will be Inu/Kag F/F in this one! But he's still going to use he/him pronouns and with Kagome's help will understand he's still a man. So really, he wasn't turned into a girl, he was turned into a trans man. I'm going to try my best to be sensitive about this topic.

Now "Sex Demon" is going to be a fun one! It's Kagome who gets cursed this time, with horniness, but Inuyasha (barely) resists her while she's under the influences.

For this one I'll include an actual snippet. This is the opening:

Inuyasha was livid. That youkai had dared to take Kagome in such a...such a way. He couldn’t think straight. Of course, that might have something to do with the squirming woman currently pinned beneath him.

“Would you stop moving?” he growled down at her.

Kagome mewled in response, looking up at him with deep blue-gray orbs for which the term ‘bedroom eyes’ would be a wildly insufficient description. They were ‘please fuck me’ eyes, and they were burning through him to his core.

“Inuyashaaaaa…” she moaned, gyrating her hips to tease him further.

He closed his eyes, and bit his lower lip so hard he pierced it on both fangs, drawing twin trails of blood he quickly licked away before the others saw them.

So "Untitled Kagome hanyou" is a modern day high school fic, and as the temporary title implies, Kagome is a hanyou in this one. But, spoiler alert, nobody knows it, because she's a weak hanyou who is human every day and hanyou every night, so in this world where humans and youkai get along but there is prejudice against hanyou from both sides, everyone thinks Kagome is human. It's just easier that way (evokes the similarities of queer people in the closet having to deal with indirect queerphobia, or someone with an invisible disability witnessing ableism). Enter the new transfer student, Inuyasha.

me personally like Westlife's "I Lay My Love on You", SWV's "Weak", and Jordin Sparks' & Chris Brown's "No Air" because, well, the lyrics are just sooo them 😂

Hi @chit-a-to and thanks for the ask! And oh man, what a question!

Well I suppose first and foremost I’m gonna HAVE to include the songs from the specified time period that I’ve actually made song-fics for. This includes Animal I Have Become by Three Days Grace (although yeah, that’s really more just Inuyasha rather than Inu/Kag specifically), and Eclipsed by Evans Blue. I hadn’t even heard of Evans Blue at the time when somebody hit me up one day actually asking for me to write a song-fic to that song; I told them I’d have to hear it first before making any promises and oh MAN, does that song just scream Inu/Kag. Once upon a time I also did a song-fic of Kagome actually singing I’m the Only One by Melissa Etheridge, and another old one that’s more just Inuyasha’s POV is a song-fic called What I really meant to say that features lyrics to Cold by Crossfade.

Besides all those, other songs that scream Inu/Kag to me, and have had me tempted to write song-fics over the years, include both Right Here and Believe by Staind (I would switch back and forth from each of their POVs, Inu/Kag on each side of the well and thinking about the other person), and Far Away by Nickelback taking place during the separation and concluding with Kagome’s return even though yes yes I know I know, okay I admit it, I like Nickelback, LOL. Then there’s another Three Days Grace song called Time of Dying, which is SO Inu’s POV as he lies there severely injured and thinking about Kagome (spoiler alert, he wouldn’t die). Does 2012 count as “early 2000s”? Because if I had the talent (and spare time) I would so make an AMV to Demons by Imagine Dragons. I would also do an AMV to The Red by Chevelle even though that’s in the same vein as Animal I Have Become and not an Inu/Kag love song.

If it takes place during the three-year separation and Kagome doesn’t yet know that she’ll eventually get her happy ending, or in a canon divergence after a bad fight regarding Kikyou, I Would’ve Loved You Anyway by Trisha Yearwood just screams Kagome. I suppose in that same vein, My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion is also a good post-separation song for Kagome, especially in an alt-ending where she never returns, and prior to him finding her again 500 years later she thinks he’s dead. I also once upon a time had an idea for a (now very off-canon) song-fic to Incomplete by Backstreet Boys that would’ve been like Kagome giving Inuyasha the jewel at the end of the mission and going back through the well but he can’t just let her go and doesn’t wish on the jewel and goes back to get Kagome in the end.

I’m trying to think of more songs, LOL, but I mean the truth is just about ANY song can work for Inu/Kag, especially if you open up the possibility of AUs. Like if I’m driving and listening to the radio, my mind can conjure up imagery for an Inu/Kag music video to just about any song that plays. Who Wants to Live Forever by Queen is perfect if we assume he will greatly outlive her, but that sort of thought is too bittersweet, LOL, oh and that’s also the ‘80s anyway so never mind. But take Taking Over Me by Evanescence, for example. That’s a Kagome trapped in the future, having discovered concealed youkai are still around and so she’s bound and determined to find Inuyasha again.

Oh wait okay, I’ve got it! See this is why I took a couple of days to think about it and compose this reply slowly as I rolled it around in my head. The PERFECT canon Inu/Kag love song, because it’s a tender love song and as a bonus totally has canine imagery, is Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol! Okay yes, I’ll end on that note, because that really is a perfect song for them. That whole "would you lie with me and just forget the world" part brings to mind the different frames of them just lying back on a grassy hill, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of just being in each other’s presence. Inuyasha also doesn’t quite know how to say how he feels, and he needs Kagome’s grace to remind him to find his own. Yes, Chasing Cars. Plus in a modern AU where he would get the car pun, I could actually see a version of Inuyasha singing that song to her.
