in my freetime, i made a complete guide to salmon run bosses to help out fellow fanatics like me
enjoy! click more to view the guide:
1. flyfishes:
you can take out a flyfish with two bombs in one sitting, but be careful and take out the left (right on your screen) wing first, since the flyfish locks targets on the one nearest to it with the left wing and the one thats furthest away with the right wing (i believe). once you take out the left wing, you can move onto the second wing easily unless someone else already got it.
2. steel eels:
steel eels take two hits to kill you and they usually go after the ones that are closest to the shore where they spawn. if it goes after you, crawl up a lot of platforms and take it out from a high distance, but if its going after someone else, tail behind it while being cautious of your surroundings. if you have a roller weapon, you can catch your roller in between where the salmon controlling the steel eel is and where the steel eel technically ends for a quick and easy kill. dont get too close to the head, as the steel eel curls around to the guy who splats the controller.
3. steelheads:
steelheads are pretty typical, but very, very dangerous. i believe that their bomb splat range is 2-3 times the splat range of a typical splat bomb that the user uses. for long-range weapons (chargers, squeltchers, splatlings, etc), get to a safe position and charge up/prepare your weapon. once the bomb is shown, fire until it explodes and kills the steelhead. for melee weapons (rollers, brushes, splatanas, etc), get to a high point where the bomb is shown at ground level. then fire until the bomb explodes. if the weapon fails or you get knocked back, run away and try again. DO NOT PERCH ON FISH STICK POLES, as the steelhead will get stuck there unless someone else approaches it.
4. scrappers:
scrappers are the most annoying bosses, besides stingers and flyfishes. they go after the closest target and ram into them until they're cornered or they get splatted. they take about 250 points until the armor gets broken and they have to fix it. then it takes 500 points to splat the scrapper from behind. if you have a weapon like an e-liter or other sniper, however, you can fire at it and break it in one shot while it tries to repair. it always faces the first attacker, and you can lure other players to splat it for you. of course, you can also crush them under a slammin' lid if you want an easy job-well-done.
5. stingers:
stingers stay right beside the shore 100% of the time and are the easiest boss to kill typically. they fire, or "sting" the furthest player away from it, but once the player gets closer, it'll switch to firing at the next furthest target. be careful and splat the stinger from a safe distance as more enemies may spawn near it.
6. maws:
maws are typically the most sneaky (not really, they can get you while youre not paying attention) of the bosses, but can get killed pretty easily. you can go the typical route and fire at it with your weapon until it gets splatted, or you can toss a bomb to where its gonna chomp down at you and it can eat the bomb instead. be careful as to have enough ink before both of these actions, and avoid salmon slime, as they can slow you down and you cant escape the maws. do not attack or throw a bomb at the maws on top of a fish stick, since that gives you little time to escape. if you do kill it up there, good for you.
7. drizzlers:
drizzlers typically land in the same spot, such as flyfishes, stingers, fish sticks, and big shots. they are usually invincible to any sort of ink going through the shield, unless you have a special out, a stray balloon popping back at it, or a grizzco weapon. the easiest way to kill drizzlers is by popping balloons back at it, as it'll kill it instantly. if you cant pop it back to the drizzler, prepare for a lot of pain, since it releases ink (slime) storms that damage you overtime. the highest priority for you is to pop the balloons, even if it doesnt fire straight back at the drizzler. once the balloon is popped, you can at least fire at it normally.
8. slammin' lids:
slammin' lids are actually quite useful, both as moving higher grounds and a weapon to kill other bosses instantly. if you run under it and dodge it, you can kill anything under it, even the dreaded flyfish. do not stay up there for too long, as it has a weapon to whack you down from where the salmon is. hop onto the lid and splat the pilot or snipe it from afar.
9. fish sticks:
fish sticks are the most simplest, but they're not all just fun and games. they can take over your workspace instantly with the ooze and slime they spit out onto the ground from high up. if youre fast and your range is far enough, you can splat the fish stick midair, and make the stick fall apart, too. if you dont have that, quickly move up the stick once its landed and splat the group of flying smallfries. the fish stick can serve for some pretty good high ground, too, especially for e-liters.
10. big shots:
big shots have double the amount of healthpoints as the normal boss salmon has. i believe it's 1000 points to kill it, since the average is 500. they'll only send out one cannon and fire from there. there can be multiple big shots but they wont move from their spot. there will never be 2+ big shot cannons. if you see a big shot, take it out immediately, as the ripples the cannonballs make can be seriously dangerous. the more big shots, the more deadly. if you see a ripple, know that it'll occur twice for each cannonball and casually jump over the ripples or get to high ground.
11. flipper-floppers:
flipper-floppers are fairly easy to splat, too. as all you really have to do is to ink the inside of the ring that the flipper-floppers produce, salmon slime can hinder you from inking the inside of the flipper-flopper, but once the inside of the ring is inked, it'll default to your color like it's a splat zone. no other ink can hinder the inner circle at this point, and you can fire at the now-exposed flipper-flopper until it gets splatted. alternatively, you can fire at it mid-air, as it'll still take damage, albeit not as much as what it'll take when exposed. bombs or wide-ranged weaponry will help you ink the circle easily.
12. goldies (for this, its very different, as goldies can depend on the event scenario):
glowflies: the eggs are scattered everywhere for these goldies, and they can move as fast as the rabid salmon chums. crawl up on a wall or a high area and sit there when the glowflies are on you. if theyre not on you, go through and collect the eggs while avoiding the swarm.
gushers: you need to find the goldie hiding in the gushers, obviously. once found, you need to fire at it. it'll leave a trail of golden eggs as you fire at it. the more damage it takes, the more smaller and faster it gets until it gets splatted and leaves behind 3 golden eggs. a typical goldie run until splatted holds 18-20 eggs.
fog: its better to lead the goldie to the egg basket, as the goldie can hold up from 1 egg up to 10-15 eggs if splatted. you can see the goldie from the shore and will chase after the nearest player. if the player is you, lead it to the basket. if its not, make the player lead the goldie to the basket by blasting "this way" over and over.
13. grillers:
grillers are especially dangerous, even in medium tide. you must outrun it and hope the others can fire at the tail of the griller long enough to get it exposed. grillers take about 500-1000 damage before getting splatted completely. grillers can dump out lots, and i mean lots, of smallfries to hinder you and splat you from a distance. be cautious of the smallfries and the grillers, and if needed, throw out a wave breaker to stop the smallfries from getting you and stopping you from getting those precious eggs.
14. mudmouths:
mudmouths are fairly easy. they come in two forms; the casual and the golden. the casual mudmouths are green and spew out either smallfries or chums. golden mudmouths, on the other hand, spew out cohocks. roller weapons are very useful in this scenario, as they can stop the hoards from coming after you. each mudmouth takes three bombs to the mouth until they explode and leave behind eggs. casual mudmouths spit out 6 eggs, while golden mudmouths spit out (i believe) 12 eggs. be speedy, as snatchers can grab the eggs and fly off.
extra tips:
use big shot cannons to launch eggs towards the basket.
use steelhead kill explosions to kill other salmons.
use fish stick poles to avoid danger most of the time.
in some cases, you can use scrappers as a shield if you break their armor enough while you're in a corner.
don't forget to use squid roll and squid dash to get to places faster and dodge attacks.
have enough ink to do, well, anything.
let snatcher grab the eggs if you know that their track goes over the egg basket. all snatchers fly the same way.
never underestimate any boss.
all bosses increase in count when in higher hazard levels. higher the level, the more bosses there are.
Sorry about the delay on the next guide page. I got a little busy with other things but now I'm ready. I have 65880 frames of splatoon to go through so expect the next page out later this week.
Bombing and enemy super jump allows you place and forget. A well timed bomb allows you to get back to completing you objective as you are not standing around waiting for them to land.
