I LOVE fantasy/SAtBK fic, so this one caught my attention easily. But I stayed for the absolute monster of a slowburn this one is. If you enjoy mutual pining, this is quite literally made for you. There’s also this really interesting fantasy plot going on (I would say in the background, but depending on the arc it is forefront. Lots of action.

In this fic, Sonic is the Prince and Shadow is his hired bodyguard/personal knight. Which is also like, my favorite troupe ever. I am extra partial to how babygirl Shadow is in this, too. 

I don’t think it makes me biased, but I also beta read the fic, which I am happy to say hasn’t killed my interest in it.

I probably do not need to recommend this to you if you are a Sonadow fic reader, but I will anyway because I rather enjoy the concept of Sonic getting a job at an aquarium out of boredom.

I also adore how this author writes Rouge and Sonic’s conversations in particular. They end up chatting in almost every fic. Kraken!Shadow cracks me up, too (haha)

I think out of this whole list, this one I hold the softest spot for. By chance it was the first longfic I got into. The author's writing style is so very romantic. Possibly the most romantic I have read, and do you know how much I read fanfics??

The premise doesn't even encapsulate how much emotion is behind this one, how personal it feels, how hard it hits- and the payoff for the hits. I feel like talking a lot about the context of this fic takes away if you aren't reading it yourself, but there is a "city escape" scene that lives rent free in my head.

An extra shout out to Mia, who got me into actively posting Sonadow content and being a part of the community. Made me less fearful of chatting with people in fandom. Before I was just a chronic Fic Commenter. (which is how we met lmao)

The blurb at the beginning hooked me cause I knew it was going to be a wild ride. It's front loaded with feelings before getting into the nitty gritty of an action adventure plot TO DIE FOR! There's a very cool system for chaos energy, Sonic and Shadow have MATCHING BRACELETS and I am not even sure if this one is going to end happy but I am so for this ride regardless.

It also really makes you think about how the world treats Sonic and Shadow differently. Makes you think in general. So charming.

Also the author is an artist as well, I am in love with how fluid and charismatic their art is.
