#2754 - Thoracochaeta sp.
A Lesser Dung Fly, from a genus found on beaches worldwide, where the larvae feed on decaying seaweed. These ones were hiding under the kelp on the ocean-facing beach in Dunedin.
For some reason Thoracochaeta zosterae in found in Medieval cesspits, but isotopic evidence doesn't support the hypothesis that people were dumping seaweed into the pits.
