Low Spend September
Through the past few months, I’ve been very uneconomical with my personal spending. Our household budget is fine, and I’ve even done pretty well with our grocery spending - but my “fun money” has been frivolously tossed away on things that are honestly just not good for me. My husband and I both get $60 a month for fun money - I also tend to keep my birthday money in my account and dole it out a little at a time through the year to add a little more to my monthly spending allowance. The past few months I’ve gone a little wild on unhealthy things - fast food runs on days when I’m home and don’t feel like eating leftovers, gas station sodas on most of my work days, etc. None of them are excessive on their own, but as a whole it’s gotten out of hand. Plus, I’m trying to trim down a bit, and this fast food business is not helping. So, for September I’m challenging myself to only spend my allowance on my once a week treat - which is usually a pretzel and big soda from Wawa on my grocery day. That’s a little over $3 each week. I’m hoping this will help me be more content with what I have, cut down on my soda and fast food consumption (back in line with what it normally is), and give me a little more fun money to do things like buy fabric or sewing supplies, or knitting patterns / yarn, or whatever else that’s not just food and drinks. Things that will give me more enjoyment and be healthier options. The month is still young, so this may yet be a bit of a challenge - and I might modify my parameters, but right now it’s basically try to cut back as much as possible, then add in some spending maybe next month on actual hobbies and things that are useful.
