You’re not miserable, it’s all in your head :)
MY thoughts on the power of a positive mindset are quite extensive, put for now I will condense to this one specific situation :)
There is no reason in the world I can think of that someone would WANT to be miserable. Who wants that? Well, turns out there are a few of you out there that do. We are all guilty of wishing for things to be different, but I have seen quite a few extremes recently.
I had a client a few months ago come to me & say that she HATED working out & everything that involved. But she also knew she needed to if she wanted to avoid health problems, especially since she had so many poor habits at such a young age (25 years old). Every time I saw her I would ask how she was feeling, how her day was going, if she was excited about the workout, etc. And every time, regardless of how great she felt after our last session, she would tell me how much she HATES working out. All aspects! Warming up, stretching, cardio, weight lifting, plyometrics, yoga, EVERYTHING. There was nothing we ever did that she would admit she enjoyed. Even if during the exercise she was smiling or pushing herself to go lower or faster or heavier or whatever. Her refusal to admit that she enjoyed working out, even just once, seemed to impact her results. Surprise surprise!
When you have a certain attitude toward something, with no willingness to change that, you will not see the results you should be seeing. Telling a trainer you hate working out is fine. You’re being honest! However, taking ownership of that statement & deciding that you will feel that way for the rest of your life will keep you from SO MUCH! Why do anything if you hate it that much? Why be THAT miserable every day? I’m not saying if you hate working out that much then just don’t. Quite the opposite. I am saying, if currently you don’t enjoy your workout, think about making changes. But I would highly suggest changing your mindset & attitude toward exercise first. Don’t see it as a punishment, see it as a reward! See it as a battle you WILL win! Don’t walk into the gym & hope you see results from your visit. Why not strut through those doors on a mission to take the place by storm. No one goes in before you & sucks all of the motivation out of the room. & no one comes in after you leave to put it back. It is you’re decision, you’re opportunity to take a miserable 60 minutes & make it your favorite 60 minutes of the day. IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU!
