Can everyone in this fandom just chill for 5 minutes?!
"He cheated" "No he didn't" "He is the worst" "Just admit it" blablabla...
Give the guy a fucking break will you? So what if he did cheat? What if he didn't? I have been in this fandom for 6 months and there hasn't been a single day people weren't out to get Dream's head.
I am not a stan, neither am I a Dream apologist. I just think all of you need to calm down for 5 minutes, for both his sake and yours. This much stress is not good for anyone and you are stressing out the rest of us that see Dream as their comfort Youtuber.
oh my god the speedrun mods doing a response to the response is so completely unnecessary and does not make them look good, at all. at this point the cause doesn't seem noble anymore it just feels like you have a grudge against one guy
i donāt feel like watching the speed run video actually i really donāt care enough and i hate math does anyone have a summary or something iām curious what he said but i donāt feel like listening to 25 minutes of math
i hope that that astrophysicist that had to review dreamās speedrun cheating allegations got payed well

hey sorry i didnāt explain, im not an expert so i wasnāt sure if my opinion, well, even mattered, but iāll try to write down my thoughts. again, i would like to reiterate that iām not a stats major and this is just based on some stat classes i took, so it might not be 100% accurate.
so binomial distribution is basically the probability of success or failure. only two outcomes. already, i find it strange theyāre using that for the trade system, where it isnāt a two outcome situation. i know the two posibilites theyāre comparing is a āyes you got ender pearlsā or āno you didnāt get ender pearlsā but either way there are other probabilistic models u can use that better match the circumstances. itās almost like they chose this model specifically because it gave them the suspicious probability they wanted
anyway, there is criteria that you have to meet in order to use this model. one requirement is that the trials ur collecting data from have to be independent of each other. in the pdf the mods say theyāve accounted for this independence by accounting for their sampling bias, but they havenāt. all they say is defense that they havenāt cherry picked their data is that the possibility is āextremely negligibleā, which is hilarious considering what theyāre trying to prove. i personally am not of the opinion that the trials are independent given the sequence of streams, which then makes any calculations of the binomial distribution void.
the pdf also states that theyāre going off a bernoulli distribution, which is closely related to the binormal distribution but has the added criteria that the probability of failure (not getting the pearls) is equal to 1 - the probability of success (getting the pearls). again, i donāt think that applies to this situation - judging from the probabilities and the weight from the pdf, the math doesnāt add up. i also took the values off of the minecraft wiki to double check, and anyone who is reading please feel free to correct me, but the the added probability of failure of pearls and success of pearls doesnāt equal one. so their data is either incorrect or they canāt be using this model.
these are just the issues iāve picked up on skimming the pdf, but iāve seen other dissenting opinions from people im sure are way more qualified than i am to be speaking about. sorry for rambling!!! but yeah here are my thoughts
donāt apologize at all, thank you so much for this! again i probably am too invested in something that i canāt have a say in, but this is a very interesting insight. iām not sure why youāre saying that each trial is not independent, is it because of the data being cherry picked?Ā
honestly you should have made your own post, this is too high level for this blogĀ
i was rewatching one of those 1.16 speedrun vods and there was a bit when dream was in a call with george, sapnap, karl and hbomb and they were all joking about dream cheating in those runs... aged like milkĀ
the funny thing to meĀ is that at the end of the day i donāt even care that much if dream actually cheated, iām gonna watch his content either way, my brain just found something to obsess over and i went along with it and read anything i could findĀ
