Carson Soucy defended a two-on-one BRILLIANTLY right at the end of the first yesterday, which was kind of overshadowed by an Avs goal and defensive plays never get as much attention as flashy offense anyway but in case he ever looks at his tumblr tag I need him to know I flipped my shit, it was goddamn gorgeous

saw an interview Alexander Wennberg did with Alison Lukan (interviewing while hiking, is that not the most PNW shit ever) and he just seems like such a good dude. he was already my favorite because he posted a pic of his dog with a rainbow toy during Pride, but in this video he said he donates his old clothes to a charity supporting queer youth, and when Alison asked about his wife he immediately acknowledged that she's put her career on hold for him to pursue his, and when she asked about fashion (because the team voted him best-dressed) he said he can't take it too seriously because he's a dad and "you're gonna get spaghetti on your shirt" lol, I am deeply charmed

listened to the John Kearns ep of Off Menu and he pulled off a STELLAR double callback near the end that made me want to applaud, it was honestly fucking art

a story from one of my books made the Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy longlist! "Folded Into Tendril and Leaf" by Bogi Takács, from Xenocultivars, was chosen as a "notable work" i.e. John Joseph Adams selected it as one of the top 40 fantasy stories published last year (40 might sound like a lot if you aren't tapped into the world of short SFF, but trust me it is not)

this week's Ted Lasso ep made me believe there's a genuine chance they might actually resolve the love triangle with a triad in the finale next week. I have never particularly needed canon to validate my ships but also I have never particularly thought there was a significant chance they would, especially for a poly ship, and right now I want it to happen so goddamn bad come on guys come on come ooooon

I was extremely on my cooking bullshit this week, the highlights being almond croissants and some KILLER potatoes au gratin—I used the rest of the dill havarti from last week's cheese board and it was SO good. also did soy chicken fritters with spinach and lemon-garlic aioli that was really good too

I'm working on an OT3-themed cocktail trio (I REALLY WANT IT OKAY) and having fun with it, been a few years since I last got really into creating a themed cocktail menu

a couple days ago I woke up super early and couldn't get back to sleep so I decided to drive to the beach and catch the sunrise over Lake Washington, it was lovely :)

I mapped out sun and shade coverage in my yard hourly over the course of a full day, which should help me plan my planting better in the future

did not win the Lambda but I was genuinely not that fussed about the winning, the nominees in our category were all so different that it was silly to compare us anyway, and I think the acceptance speech I prepped is really good and could be reused if we win something else so that's nice to have in our back pocket

been writing a bunch! haven't actually finished much, but I've gotten a lot done on several different fics plus the Lammy speech and an outline/rough draft of a column I was invited to write for The Gay & Lesbian Review

had a thing of cashews that was getting elderly so I made a ton of cashew cream and then cooked some different stuff with it, mac-n-cheese and scalloped sweet potatoes and a spinach lemon sauce over pasta with chopped pecans, and it was all really good

found out that my girlfriend writes lowercase "s" two different ways and switches between them afaict randomly, which is just incredibly endearing to me <3

someone left a comment on my fic calling me an "emotional chiropractor" and that made me smile

discovered the song "Contagious" by Night Riots and it hit just right, I've been listening to it a lot

I liked a lot of the things the Ted Lasso finale did, and Beard's luggage full of rice is still making me combust laughing every time I remember it, perfect line perfect delivery no notes

Taskmaster S15 wrapped up this week too and I'm happy about the winner! they also announced the next series lineup and OMG SUE PERKINS AAAAHHHHHHHHH

it was my mom's birthday this week and I made her candles and wrote a letter that got a little heavy, wasn't sure it was the right vibe for a birthday but she loved it :)

freestyled a white russian variation with ice cream and a few grinds of a dessert spice mix my aunt gave me, super delicious

made some good food—egg sammiches, fancy mac 'n' cheese, berries with honey and mint, sweet potato gnocchi that did not turn out like I wanted but it was a good learning experience. my basil plant is not large enough to start doing real batches of pesto yet but I did a little mini-batch for just one bowl of pasta, it was v tasty and I'm excited for future pesto adventures

Steph has been reading Xenocultivars and messaging me about her favorite stories and lines, makes me really happy to see someone I love enjoying a thing I made <3

there was another good thing involving Steph this week that she probably doesn't want me sharing in detail but it was very hot and made me very happy

first SCF game was tonight and although I am heartily booing Vegas I do have a soft spot for Shea Theodore, who used to play for the Thunderbirds here so I saw him live a lot, and I was glad to see him have a good game

my BOY my GUY my MAN Joey Daccord had to step up and play two games for the Kraken this week and he did SO GOOD Y'ALL! it was unexpected on two levels, first that it would be him getting the callup instead of Driedger and second that he would actually get the start over Jones, and he made the absolute most of the opportunity—one of the postgame talking heads was a bit of an ass about the first one because he let in four, but Hakstol understood the circumstances (one extremely weird double bounce no goalie could have done anything about, two 6-on-5 situations our guys were not defending well) and sang his praises, and we won anyway. then the second one we lost in a shootout, but the only one he let in during regulation was a rebound off a killer initial save and then he went absolute beast mode in OT, just unbelievable. there's always gonna be a Mike Smith-shaped hole in my soul, but Daccord obviously idolized the guy when he was at Arizona State and plays so much like him that watching him really feels a little like coming home <3

really enjoyed this week's Ted Lasso ep, especially (spoiler warning) the part where Jamie sees Roy and Keeley leaving in two different directions and it's set up to make you think he's gonna go after Keeley to hit on her now that she's single again but instead HE GOES AFTER ROY to ineptly attempt empathy and hugs <333

listened to Debby Friday's debut album four times yesterday and three times so far today, I am so so so so into it

after some disappointing incidents with NHL pride nights, something cool happened with my local junior league team, the Thunderbirds—they didn't have an official pride night planned this season, so the fans just... made one happen themselves! the T-Birds have the only out gay player in the WHL, Luke Prokop, and EVERY SINGLE PLAYER used rainbow stick tape during warmups for this UNOFFICIAL pride night in support of their teammate, AND some of them kept the tape during the game. which, listen, I use Pride tape myself, but only on parts of the stick I don't have to handle the puck with, because real talk it is some crappy-ass tape, and any serious hockey player would know that just from touching it, so these guys were basically saying that supporting their teammate was more important to them than being good at hockey, and I just have a whole lot of feelings okay

Dallas has a goalie named Jake Oettinger whose nickname is Otter and he has lil cartoon otters painted on his goalie mask, which delighted both rocket bae and my mom (both big otter fans)

I started explaining what was going on during a Kraken game to Steph and she was like "I understood the goalie interference part" I'm so proud <3

I cut my hair and it feels very nice to not have all that shagginess on my neck

got two of the other Lammy-nominated anthologies from the library and they're both so impressive! (also both extremely different from each other and from Xenocultivars, doesn't really seem fair to compare us all tbh, but I guess that's just how it goes with awards)

rearranged my room to bring in a comfy chair and in the process found the fucking laptop I was 100% convinced must have gotten stuck in with rocket bae's stuff in storage because I had looked absolutely everywhere, including the place it actually was at least 3 times *eyeroll* but it has been found, hallelujah

THE KRAKEN WON OUR FIRST EVER PLAYOFF GAME! AGAINST LAST YEAR'S CUP CHAMPIONS! and like, we REALLY won that game, and even though we lost the second one we still outplayed them for most of it. all the playoff predictions had us losing this series, like fucking ALL of them, and I am so proud of my boys for doing so well <3

THE AMSTERDAM EPISODE. oh my GOD. possibly my favorite episode of television, ever. not just the Roy/Jamie stuff (although YES the Roy/Jamie stuff) but all of it, I loved every single storyline

my book's cover art got nominated for an award! obviously this is an accomplishment of the artist (Laya Rose) not me, but it's a happy thing :)

found out my therapist ships Trent/Jamie, which is so magnificently unhinged it actually makes me more comfortable talking to her about fannish stuff lmao

I actually feel slightly bad about how well the Colin-coming-out one is doing because it's on the first page of AO3 results for Roy/Jamie sorted by kudos and it's not really a Roy/Jamie fic, but hopefully folks will be churning out enough new Roy/Jamie post-Amsterdam to overtake it XD
