Special Cut: Jesse’s House 

Breaking Bad S05x02 “Madrigal”

The montage of Walt and Jesse searching his house is a beautiful gift to us all. It gives a clear picture of where Jesse is at mentally compared to the first half of Season 4, when we last saw oodles of his house. And this is a masterclass in set decoration as it gives us a clear portrait of a domesticated Jesse - instant family, right? His bedroom is orderly, even though his lamps are askew, as is the majority of the house. There are way too many cigarette butts lying around for a child wandering around (the mound still lives in the fireplace!), but there’s kids stuff all over: movies, crayons, and many packs of cards.

And, the pièce de résistance, the JUNK BOWL. Batteries, rubber bands, random papers, pens, crayons, sunglasses. It’s so real. 

I looked up Open Season, the child’s film laying on the coffee table. It’s a Sony movie and the description is fitting:

“...a domesticated grizzly bear with no survival skills has his perfect world turned upside down when he meets Elliot...”
