RAHHHH I HATE HOW THEY WERE SOULMATES IN ANOTHER LIFE IS SUCH A COMPELLING FHCKING PLOT TWIST AND TROPE BUT ITS SO OVERUSED IN SUPERNATURAL ROMANCE KDRAMAS I WANNA DIE—
Like pls I get it's a good plot point but like it does NOT need it to be their past lover and their current lover as the same person when rhey have to sacrifice shit. PLS UP THE STAKES IN A BETRER MANNER.
I get there's fate and destiny, but you can have those screw up the main cast in another way!!! (Like in my fanfics)
What's a better alternative is my question though.
So far, I haven't implemented the they met in another life simply becuz I haven't.
Only implemented, they have met each other before getting to the current start of the plot stuff. To varying degrees.
But you can always execute the dilemma of fate fucking them by choosing between the greater good or the self satisfaction. Which I 10x prefer on its own. The whole past life thing just amps up the stakes to an already stressful one. It'd be 10x worse if the past experience and current experience being the same were 2 diff ppl becuz 1) it symbolically shows how the fuck up happened and 2) gives a choice to undo the fuck up without undermining the experience and memories of the past lives yk.
In fact, I PROPOSE that instead of past life lovers ending in tragedy reuniting to be in love again, one of the lovers actively searches for the past killer of their situation in order to ensure they don't ruin another relationship and instead srumbles across the past lover romancing the past killer.
So now there's the moral dilemma on if the lover needs to re-romance the past lover or past killer to prevent their situation (becoming the new past life lovers killer and repeating the cycle) or if the lover has to come to terms with living their own life (at the expense of leaving it to fate if the past killer fucks up and gets them to round 3 yk). There is a lot of bargaining and grief that happens, assuming that the lover is still yearning for the past lover yk unless the lover isn't.
