Tateyama Ayano - Kaname Madoka

Kisaragi Momo - Tomoe Mami

- became a magical girl really young

- Kyuubey appeared before her, wish was to draw more attention

- when the drowning thing happens, dad had seen the strange occurrence, not quite understanding but acknowledging Momo saved them somehow

- led to divorce between parents (?)

- dad takes Momo and tries to support her, but he is busy working mostly

- Momo enters Ayano’s school as a freshman

- has a lot of experience with being a magical girl at that point

- when fighting the Dessert Witch while mentoring Ayano and Takane, she doesn’t account for how difficult it is to cover two defenseless people and ends up dying

Kisaragi Shintaro - Akemi Homura

- looping, duh

- i actually don’t think he’s that much like Homura, but thematically it makes sense

Enomoto Takane - Miki Sayaka (kind of)

- similar to Route 0, meets Haruka in the hospital

- Kyuubey approaches her, but she has no particularly strong desires

- until she gets to know Haruka

- Haruka makes her feel happy, when her whole life she’s been unmotivated and bitter

- but Haruka is obviously sad, tells her he will die in less than a year

- doesn’t think it’s fair that someone that makes her so happy has to die, so makes contract with Kyuubey

- selfless wish for a selfish reason

- feels more alive as a magical girl, has purpose

- treats it like a game, waiting until familiars become Witches so she can get the Grief Seeds

- when Witch appears near Haruka, Takane tries to defend him

- Witch is a familiar she let get away before (is that how that works?)

- Takane is no match on her own, before Haruka, freshly magical, saves her

- Haruka dies in the process of protecting her, thanking her for saving him from his loneliness

- Takane feels terrible, feeling like all her decisions just led him to his death, protecting her of all things, and becomes a Witch

Kokonose Haruka - Kyouko Sakura (kind of)

- was terminally ill, Takane’s wish cures him

- when Takane is in danger, makes contract with Kyuubey

- wish to have a body strong enough to save Takane

- selfish wish for a selfless reason

- gay gay homosexual gay

- dealing with internalized homophobia

^ these two might as well be true but i can't get into that

(El was often perceived as "boyish" in s1, Mike only initially cared about El in regards to how she could help him find Will with her powers, Ted Wheeler's vaguely homophobic comments, Mike's protectiveness of Will all throughout s2, his whole monologue of their first meeting -- how asking Will to be his friend was the best choice he ever made, Mike's disinterest/animosity towards Max when she was first introduced, Mike and El breakup scene in s3 is treated like a joke, while Mike and Will (friendship) breakup in s3 is so cinematic and dark and impactful, "It's not my fault you don't like girls!" < projecting onto Will, how he bikes after Will in the pouring rain to apologize to him not even a minute after he runs off while after El dumped him he didn't make any effort to make amends at all and only complained about how girls are so complicated, Mike being unable to say the word "love" to El's face throughout s3, the look of absolute confusion on his face with El (his GIRLFRIEND) kissed him at the s3 finale -- eyes wide open and not returning the kiss nor physical contact, all that versus the dorky little smile he gives Will when he tells Mike that he won't join another DnD party in Lenora)

(omg the ENTIRETY OF S4 gets its own text block bc it capped out the text block word limit, being unable to properly hug Will at the airport, spending their entire first outing at rink o' mania ignoring Will yet not paying enough attention to El to notice that her friends were actually bullies but also somehow able to point about how mopey Will was the entire time??? when Mike gets into a fight with Will about how he never wrote letters to Will but only to El and Mike explains that it's because El is his girlfriend and Will asks "What about us?" and Mike gets all defensive and says "We're friends. We're friends!" clearly hearing some other type of implication and when Will says "I thought we were best friends" Mike suddenly realizes his misunderstanding and quickly tries to brush past the topic and the song the plays in the background is called 'in the closet (at rink o' mania)' and then he says they should focus on finding El (his GIRLFRIEND) who i remind you is currently hiding away because her bullies poured a milkshake on her and humiliated her in public while Mike and Will are having this argument, when El eventually has enough of Angela's bullshit and slams a roller skate into her nose Mike sorta blows up on her asking what she did which gives her FLASHBACKS TO HER EVIL SCIENTIST ABUSER SAYING THE SAME THING BACK WHEN SHE WAS A LAB RAT, Mike rubbing in salt in the wound during dinner by being distant and standoffish eventually leading El to storm off to her room, Mike confronting her later saying all the wrong things like how he thinks she's a superhero when all El wants him to do is say he loves her which he has even been unable to WRITE in his letters to her ("You never say it!" "I say it."), versus him talking to Will and without prompting acknowledging his mistakes and how he was acting like a jerk ("Well... I didn't say it." "You didn't have to."), Mike explaining that when Will moved away it felt like he was losing him somehow and Hawkins didn't feel the same without him and how things would be better if they were a team again ("Friends. Best Friends."), THE FUCKING VAN SCENE where Mike explains his falling out with El and how he was just a guy that got lucky Superman landed on his doorstep and feeling sorry for himself and then Will gifts Mike a painting and gives a rousing speech about his feelings and how he believes Mike is The Heart while saying it was all commissioned by El and crediting her with his feelings, Mike being in love with Will's feelings because the way Will loves Mike is exactly the way he wants to be loved (to be needed), while El is mind battling Vecna and she is losing Mike knows he needs to do something but he is only spurred into action by Will pushing him forward and urging him on, how Mike's speech about his love for El (love at first sight, loving her on her good days and bad days, how his life started when he met her like it was fate) is all such bullshit because contradicts everything we've seen in the show and even stuff stated no more than 10 minutes ago, how him finally saying "I love you" ISN'T EVEN what gives El the strength needed to fight off Vecna because she actually finds strength in her memories with Max, oml Mike Wheeler wtf is wrong with you (homosexuality))

i know i said i wouldn't get into it but like this isn't even everything.... this is just the highlight reel

alright back to headcanons i sincerely apologize

- college style is definitely alt/punk (grows his hair back out, baggy clothes, a handful of piercings, everyone welcome back Hellfire Club Mike)

- English Major, author Mike my beloved

- Will gets into SAIC so Mike goes to UIC and they get an apartment together close to both of their campuses

- no they aren't dating yet, this is normal best friend behavior

- it takes Mike a long time to come to terms with his sexuality and his feelings for a myriad of reasons (internalized homophobia, not believing he's good enough for Will, etc. etc.)

- when they DO start dating (after a Mike Wheeler emotional breakdown of epic proportions thanks to his years and years of emotional repression -- this is a KEY factor in the process), Mike tries his best to be the most considerate boyfriend to Will

- after rushing things with El and making literally everyone unhappy, he trusts Will to lead and navigate way more than he trusts himself

- Mike doesn't use many pet names for Will outside of the very special "my Sorcerer," which he saves for the most opportune time to make sure it never loses its weight

- despite being a writer, the more he thinks about what he's trying to say the more awkward it comes out

- he says the most poetic things in the moment, straight from the heart

- Mike picks up guitar, the first thing he attempts to learn is Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash

- he probably dabbles in songwriting and singing

- Mike still has at least a faint scar from the slash across his face in s3

- he CANNOT dance, seriously he's like a baby deer trying to stand on the dance floor

- has problems eating when he's stressed

- an emotional drunk and also a major lightweight, which is why he never drinks

- ends up needing reading glasses but mostly refuses to wear them in public cuz he thinks they make him look like a dork (they do)

- was left handed when he was young but his parents made him learn to use his right hand so now he's kinda ambidextrous!!!!

- has little to no self-preservation instincts, it's a miracle he's survived honestly (self worth issues strike again!)

- always has/easily gets headaches

- handwriting is tall but compact, always filled with annotations

- takes his coffee black

- big spoon!!!!!

- Will occasionally imparts some art wisdom on Mike, who isn't particularly talented in that field

- manspreads all the time

- choice of pet would be a cat

- loves having his hair messed with though he denies it
