Sometimes I hate being a human in a shitty country on a planet in a lonely star system devoid of intelligent life beyond its one strategically placed planet. It feels so fucking limiting.
I don't think that life is even that unusual or unique a phenomenon in the cosmos. It's just that the distance between us and the other forms is impossible to cross at this point in time because of so many underlying circumstances from lack of tech to traverse those distances to levels of intelligence.
The defacto explanation of the phenomenon of life in space is that any form of intelligence that could be smart enough to traverse those distances would more than likely be hostile and exploitive as they would see the non-explorers as lesser forms of life for their limitations and easily manipulated and conquered. Nevermind such beings would be an easy means of acquiring resources to the beings with higher mental processing capabilities with little effort.
Then again, that's a flawed way of thinking, as it's thinking from the limitations of humanity, which can be highly intelligent but not to the extent of the enlightenment these other forms of life might have. So these theories are fundamentally flawed to begin with.
This is why I hate thinking about space and the universe and extraterrestrial life sometimes. It's terrifying.
