Here's Norio, part of the SpacePunks gang. It always love how characters grow and evolve when you meet the right people that inspire you. Originally, Norio was just the sidekick of the main character, Bala, and as such, did not have much of a personality... he was just a scared little friend that was used as a bouncing board to Bala's comments. Then I met Rocky, a dear friend of mine from Orange County, CA... love his dry sense of humor and excellent on-time comments. Suddenly I had the genius idea to give this once blah character my friend's personality... this not only gave Norio a definite personality, it made the interactions between him in Bala more real and funnier. I LOVE inking in Adobe Illustrator... Not only does it allow to "ink" in a way that feels closer to traditional inking, you can also "cheat" with the several functions that come in vector-based programs. Here is a sample: the left side, although based on the pencils to the left, has been altered in a way that, even it is still essentially the same drawing, it has been inked in a much quicker way than if done traditionally.
