Gundam brings up what I think is one of the scariest things about space exploration. not aliens, or the vastness of space, or anything like that. but how long until those in space consider themselves separated from those on earth. and how long after that until earth tries to hold on to it's colonies by force. Realistically if we have colonies on the moon we can maybe hold on to them, but Venus, mars, etc.? Due to people's desire for direct representation and governing it wouldn't be long at all until they go "why are we taking orders from a place we've never been to?" I mean I imagine 2-3 generations at most. The more generations that are born in space the less they will want to be bound by the rules of a far off planet. @more-moe-more-problems I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Some would assume that with my love of Gundam (giant robots waging war in space) I would be fully supportive of modern militaries and their drive to weaponize outer space. Honestly though, it is sickening. Humanity has spent so long looking at space and going "How mysterious, how beautiful." and now we directly rip funding out of the hands of departments like NASA and go "What if we put nuclear weapons and lasers on satellites?" instead of colonizing the Moon or Mars, or figuring out how to better afford space based solar energy generators. It is absolutely sickening.
