The three of them clicked open their seat harnesses almost in unison. Free of his restraints, Crowley was surprised to find that he was floating. “ Whoa!”
It was ridiculous to be surprised. But here he was, all the same, feeling like a toddler who just learned to walk.
“I know!” chortled Maggie. She must have inadvertently pushed off from her seat, since she ricocheted off the capsule’s wall.
“No air bubbles,” said Xiu, and the three of them began laughing.
“Opening hatch now. Over,” said the disembodied voice of Sanders.
Crowley got ahold of himself. “Standing by.”
The nose of the Dragon had hinged forward right before achieving soft capture, and now the barrier between the Dragon and the ISS retracted. Crowley could see hints of the vestibule beyond. His breath caught in his throat.
Just like from the pictures and models with which he and team had practiced, he could see that the space station was made up of a variety of modules, six-sided cubes that fit neatly together like large, 3-D, hollow puzzle pieces.
“Time to enter the playplace,” Maggie said, a hiccup of excitement in her voice.
Maggie was right; the modules certainly looked like the playplaces Crowley had seen at fast food restaurants in America. At least from the pictures. Now he was here and would see it with his own eyes.
His body thrilled.
Let’s get all the cargo off now,” said Xiu, pulling herself down below their seats. “Then we only have to make one trip.”
Thankfully someone was a responsible adult aboard the Dragon. At the moment, it was certainly not Crowley.
