It wasn’t long after that Wish heard a new set of hoof steps coming towards her door. She sighed and rolled off her bed. Her mom was probably coming to tell her dinner was ready or something. Instead, a wide-eyed Funny Bones stood in her door way. Wish paused, then started to close the door.
“Wait!” Funny throughout an arm. “Please hear me out?”
Wish raised a brow, and sat where she was. He followed suit but didn’t comment that he was still in the doorway.
“I know that an apology won’t make it better, but I am sorry I ran out on you the other day. I won’t make excuses, but I do want to explain myself.”
At her lack of response, he carried on.
“I’ve… well, when I was small…er, I always wanted to perform. I fancied myself a comedian and all the ponies I tried my jokes on said I was a natural. When I stood on stage for the school talent show though, I choked up.” Funny hugged himself. “It was awful. All those eyes watching me, judging everything I said and did. I couldn’t remember anything I had practiced and tried to make something up on the spot. It didn’t work and I ended up running off stage and hiding backstage.
“It’s not something I’m proud of. I thought, maybe now that I’m older, maybe I would have gotten over my stage fright. But standing in that classroom with all those expectant ponies watching me and… I’m sorry I couldn’t be who you wanted me to be.”
Funny lowered his head, and Wish rose to comfort him. She hesitated, moving instead to rub her foreleg. How do you comfort a pony older than you?
“I… I wasn’t mad that you ran away you know.” She tried.
Funny looked up and frowned.
“Seriously.” She nodded vigorously. “I was more angry that you agreed to come and then ran out on me without any explanation.”
“You forced me to come, remember?”
“That’s not the point,” Wish tried to backtrack, “The point is that you didn’t explain why you never wanted to come to these sorts of school things. It was always just excuses.”
“Well… It’s hard to let down your little sister when she looks up to you so much, you know? You hold me in such a high regard, always saying how I’m so great with everypony and how they all love me. How could I admit to you that I can’t stand up in front of crowds?”
Wish sighed and walked forward to hug her brother. He wrapped his arms around her and leaned his head down to rest on the back of her neck.
“I’m sorry I made you scared to tell me these sorts of things. I shouldn’t have made you out to be anything but a normal pony.” She leaned away and smiled up at him. “But I still think you’re the best big brother, even if you can’t come to my school to present to my class.”
Funny chuckled and pulled her in for another hug. ((Soxmod: That’s it for the Family Day story! Thank you all so much for enjoying this little series, especially since the art itself was done last year. Sorry, some tragic things happened while I worked on this, then my senior year of college was exhausting. But hey! Me and Kroo are now graduates and have a lot of ideas that we hope to realize soon! Keep the questions coming and thank you again!))
