As the company of prophets was sitting before him, he said to his servant, “Put the large pot on, and make some stew for the company of prophets.” One of them went out into the field to gather herbs; he found a wild vine and gathered from it a lapful of wild gourds, and came and cut them up into the pot of stew, not knowing what they were. They served some for the men to eat. But while they were eating the stew, they cried out, “O man of God, there is death in the pot!” They could not eat it. He said, “Then bring some flour.” He threw it into the pot, and said, “Serve the people and let them eat.” And there was nothing harmful in the pot.

When all the kings who were servants of Hadadezer saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel, and became subject to them. So the Arameans were afraid to help the Ammonites any more.¹

All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,  and all your faithful shall bless you. They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom,  and tell of your power, to make known to all people your mighty deeds,  and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,  and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

The Lord is faithful in all his words,  and gracious in all his deeds. The Lord upholds all who are falling,  and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you,  and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand,  satisfying the desire of every living thing. The Lord is just in all his ways,  and kind in all his doings. The Lord is near to all who call on him,  to all who call on him in truth.

There they shall be in great terror,  for God is with the company of the righteous. You would confound the plans of the poor,  but the Lord is their refuge.

O that deliverance for Israel would come from Zion!  When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people,  Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.

Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, “Rabbi, eat something.” But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” So the disciples said to one another, “Surely no one has brought him something to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work. Do you not say, ‘Four months more, then comes the harvest’? But I tell you, look around you, and see how the fields are ripe for harvesting. The reaper is already receiving wages and is gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”
