"Say the word, and I’ll stop. Otherwise, I’m not holding back." from this post.
Andres scoffs at Aleksandr's words, but his voice trembles when he speaks, and his smile doesn't quite reach his ears.
"You really think I'd believe that? You didn't stop for Thomas, you're not stopping for me, Leck."
Aleksandr clicks his tongue in response, staring straight into Andres' eyes like he's trying to knock some sense into the older man.
"You underestimate me, Андой."
"No, I'm not and I don't. I know you, Aleksandr. I know what you're capable of and what you aren't," Andres spits, more venom than he'd intended, but it carries his message all the same. He doesn't trust Aleksandr anymore.
"Do you, really?" Aleksandr gave a derisive chuckle, a brief little snort. "You don't even know half the shit I've done in my prime. All of my achievements before you came, who I was..."
"...That's not the witty quip you think it is, Leck," Andres replies quietly.
Aleksandr was sat on the loveseat facing the lit fireplace, Andres stood uncomfortably behind him, right arm still slung and riddled with bandages. Aleksandr could smell the antiseptic from the clinic cling onto Andres' worn clothes. He takes a swig of his whiskey to drown out the scent.
"If you don't believe me, then what are you doing here, Andres?"
Andres takes a moment to answer, not hesitating, simply taking his time.
When Andres' answer came, Aleksandr couldn't say he was surprised.
"So you're not gonna try and dissuade me?" Aleksandr asks, softly this time, casually; it's a rhetoric, they both already know the answer to the question.
"I don't have enough faith in your words to even think about trying." Andres sets a wrapped handkerchief beside Aleksandr's empty lowball, and Aleksandr doesn't have to open it to know that it carried a golden ring within. "The fate of the world isn't dependent on me, you can't let it be."
It won't be the last time they see each other, Aleksandr is sure of it. But now, Andres has no excuse. Aleksandr gave him a choice and he made the bed he said he'd lie on.
this is barely coherent and i don't like the dialogue but it's been in my drafts for so long hhhhhhhhhhhh
