A rough day would be an understatement. All these scars and bandages and battered sense of hope, and for what? To find answers? All of this searching and risking seem to always a dead end. Empty handed. Tired. 

Sophie was so, so tired. Curiosity and stubbornness could only get her so far. Up until there was no one left to come back to. Up until she inevitably ends up alone. She finds herself in another empty motel room, clothes and papers scattered. When she closed the door behind her, she leaned against it and slid to the floor. Her gaze went down to her hands, bruised and calloused over time. At this point, it didn’t even hurt anymore. 

But then a sharp, piercing pain shot through her chest-- like she had been shot, but this wasn’t that. No, this. This was tied to something. A thought. A someone. As soon as the memories came pouring in, so did her hitched breathing. It’s been so long, and she hadn’t heard from him in so long. At times like these, he’d usually be there. Somehow and some way, he would always be there. Keeping tabs on her. But now--

“--Shit. No, stop.” she curled her fingers into fists.

Optimus has always had a compulsion to measure his emotions against a set of external values - the mores of the strict caste-based society before the war, once upon a time, and more recently his own very strong perception of what the world ought to be. 

This can be a pain in the actuators, because as we all know, emotions are seldom logical or tidy, and when they do not match up with these external values of his, it is not uncommon for him to be annoyed or made to feel guilty by this. He values self-discipline, and while logically he knows that it is impossible to make himself exist perfectly in line with those beliefs, there is a large part of him that disagrees on a base-coding level.
