Spreadsheets, spreadsheets and more spreadsheets.
So time is ticking by before I leave this country for potentially seven months. Most of my thoughts are focussed on all the things I need to do (and still haven’t done) before I leave; all of it can sometimes be quite daunting and overwhelming. Why the girl, who likes to make lists for EVERYTHING, still hasn’t made that comprehensive list of things to do is beyond me!
So whilst I am currently failing at writing that much needed to-do list, I have managed to create a ‘fancy’ Excel Spreadsheet to track my travel plans and costs. Yes, the management consultant in me just couldn’t resist. I’ve spent hours playing around with countif formulas, data validation rules and conditional formatting just because. I’ve also spent some time filling in the spreadsheet with all the information I need, but the fact that it’s currently not up to date tells you that I only like doing the useless things and not the useful things. (I WILL fill everything in, I just haven’t got round to it yet! And yes, I will put this on my list.)
Of late, it’s felt like I’ve spent all day at work staring at my laptop and all evening staring at my laptop (doing boring CIMA qualification stuff or booking/looking up travel plans). I’m not going to lie, combined with the crazy travel that’s usually in my schedule, concerts and other things, the run up has been more stressful than enjoyable. I’m not doing Project 12′s first international gig in Norway because of all this (boo!) and am trying to make the time to meet up with people before I go. Having said that, it’s not even the hectic schedule (which I secretly enjoy) that’s stressing me out the most. It’s all the things that haven’t quite gone to plan (I WANT TO THROW ALL THE ROCKS AT THE INDIAN VISA PEOPLE) and the undecided, unknown aspects of the trip (WHY AM I SO INDECISIVE?!) that make me feel a bit nervous.
Okay, so this has unintentionally turned into a bit of a rant (oopsie sozzles!). Honestly, all of this aside, there is a part of me that is pretty excited and is full of hopes and ambitions for what this could be. I love having that sense of purpose - it’s what makes my world go round! (That, and spreadsheets obviously :D).
I’m going to leave with this song that has constantly been on repeat the last week or two. I only discovered the meaning of the lyrics as I was writing up this blogpost, but they’re beautiful and quite apt, I feel.
“The night. So profound. So deep. So pure. The broken dreams will amend, for sure. The world is racing. I will race too.”
